For some reason, whenever I try to watch a video on the internet, it always loads really slowly. For example, when I try to watch a video on Gametrailers.com, it always loads so slowly, that the video needs to pause for a few second in order to continue loading. I don't understand why this happens. Here are my computer's specs, since that is probably important to know for my situation:

2.00Ghz processor (Quad Core)
6 GB ram (although, I don't know if that matters)
I have a fast internet connection, but I don't know the specific numbers for the speed...
Also, I am using internet explorer.

Does anyone know what would be causing the problem, and also how to fix it?

Apparently not if your internet videos are taking a while to load...

There's your problem, even though it is quad core, it's still slow.

Well, I was thinking that maybe internet explorer is set on some setting that causes videos to load faster. I don't know...

But I'm currently on a computer with a 1.86 Ghz processor, and video's load way faster. Like, a 3 minute video is loaded completely in 15 seconds.

Try out:
Speedtest.net
see what your speeds are...

AND
ping your service provider's homepage
(ie: www.comcast.net)

:To do this, Click start..... run..... type 'cmd' and hit enter... when command prompt comes up, type 'ping -t www.comcast.net' and hit enter.

Your avg ping should be from 9 to 12 ms.... anything more is not so good.

I suspect that you will already know this, but here goes anyway :

Whenever you use the internet, your pc accumulates a lot of temporary files in many locations. Unless you "clean" your pc on a fairly regular basis, you can build up a suprisingly large amount of junk files which claim slow down your browser.

If you don't already use it, you might want to find a freeware program called Windows Washer on the web - it can clean up caches and locations which get clogged up with useless temp files.

If this doesn't work then you may need to update your drivers.

What's so great about firefox anyway? I mean, I hear that the only difference between them is that firefox is glitchier, although, I don't have any info to back that up, so my sources are probably wrong.

Firefox was much better than IE7.....

Now that IE8 is out.... they are about the same...

Also.... Microsoft purposely throws wrenches into Firefox's system.

Firefox used to be much more superior.... not so much anymore.... but It will always be my browser of choice.

Been using a mac all my life so naturally i've been using the Safari browser. Just today I switched to firefox and my god it's amazing. So many more functions, totally customizable, thousands of applications to make your browsing easier, and blazing fast. I have a windows partition as well, and the first thing I did when I installed windows on my mac was to download Firefox and Chrome. They just work better, faster, and block all that malicious shit that IE lets through.

idk, I can sit here for hours and tell you why IE is bad. But it's really up to you to broaden your horizons and at least look into what could be a better option, just so you're more knowledgeable on the subject. I've tried every browser under the sun, not because I wanted to use them forever but because I wanted to know the pros and cons of what each offered. Makes for a more intelligible discussion.

Guess I don't really want to be the bad guy telling you IE SUCKS LOLOL!, so really I'm just saying that you should at least try a diff browser to load videos to see if that was or wasn't the cause of your problem. Narrows down your list of possible causes.

I actually run a "Disc Cleanup" every few days, but it really doesn't do anything significant for me. I'll try updating my drivers. I don't know a lot about drivers, though. Which drivers do I update?

Also, I use IE8, but I'll try downloading firefox and I'll see if it works better tonight.

I tried downloading the speedtest thing, but it won't work on my 64-bit operating system. Is there a way to temporarilly switch to 32-bit or something?

I tried this. It kept saying "General Failure" over and over again, so I gave up.

Also, I downloaded firefox, and videos still load at the same speed.

ALSO ALSO, it turns out I actually have 2.5 ghz. Any other suggestions?

You fucking idiot, no it's not.
Armor, restart your router/ethernet. I've had this problem before. Completely disconnect your modem, and turn off whatever could be supplying you network.
If it still is slow, than, well.....sorry.

Even though I'm a zealous Firefox fanboy, I must say Safari and Chrome are the fastest browsers.

You would have to get a new hard drive, so no. That's like trying to downgrade your screen without opening it.

It should work fine. As said above, power-cycle the router.

Someone suggested that it could be that I have an out of date driver, so I downloaded Driver Detective (it tells you which of your drivers are out of date), and wouldn't you know it, I need a new Network driver. So, I'm gonna try downloading an update, and I'll see what happens.

Yeah, and I am on firefox right now, and it's much slower than internet explorer 8, at least for me it is...

The same thing happens whenever I try to play any video on the internet at any time of day. I don't get it. I mean, any thing else I do on my internet loads really fast, just not when I try to load videos.

Update: I updated my network and video cards and still no difference. By the way, my brother let me try watching some videos on his laptop with a much worse processor, less ram, and the SAME INTERNET CONNECTION, and somehow, videos load well on his computer.

Aaandd... Yeah. Your internet is probably just plain slow. Nothing really else to investigate. Usual: Try a restart, reset your router/modem, clear your cache, etc etc etc. Just google how to do all those if you don't know how.
