National Novel Writing Month

InTheBlue and I have entered this competition, which starts tomorrow.

Basically, you have to write a 50,000 word novel in 30 days.

Anyone else going to give it a shot?

Fuck, wow, this is pretty cool. I've been so fucking busy lately, but I'm really going to try to do this since I honestly fucking love writing. Nice find mang.

Well, I'm doing it and have been planning to do it for roughly a month. Project Plantania. I also know WritersBlock is doing it.

Hell yeah I'm doing it. In my timezone it's about a quarter past 1 in the morning. My novel, "In the Valley of the Tempest" is already under way. 300 words and counting. Almost at 1% of the target 50k.

Hooray for literary abandon!

I'm actually currently trying to get into my account on the website. At this rate, I'll probably sign up for a new one in the morning before starting.

Just after I posted this, I managed to get into my account. Also added you as a "friend" thing on it.

Same here, doesn't help having a shitty program like Wordpad and having a raging headache.

I like to write but I've always found this concept of the national novel writing month to be exceedingly stupid. Why limit yourself to one month to produce a novel, when you stand to gain absolutely nothing from doing so? This contest entails no prizes besides some intangible sense of personal glory, and serves only to encourage thoughtless and quickly-scrawled work with little accompanying profoundness or originality, because it limits creativity to a 30-day box from which there is no escape if you want to "win."

If you want to write a novel, write a good one, and take your time for chrissakes. Nobody wants to read a hundred pages of your shitty stream-of-consciousness ramblings.

Well, I'm getting practice of producing novels at a high pace, rather than a sluggish-but-high-quality one. Although I am doing fixing up next month so I can fix any parts that appear crap.

Well, this thread is terribly quiet. Are you failing or are you writing too hard to stop and update the rest of us?

I, for one, am streaming through 14,000 words. A bit behind schedule but I had about 5,000 words done in week one and I'm on target for well and truly doubling that this week.

I've got my first two chapters up on my blog, which is linked to from here.

I know, I know, whoring my stuff out, but for the amount that I've written, I think that's allowed.

brb moar writign lol!
