We all know some of the so-called "classic" games. Each and every one of us here has, at some point, played Pac-Man (I hope) or at least heard of it. Same with Donkey Kong, Pong, at least one version of Street Fighter II, and a whole mess of others. It's something that most gamers do, part of joining the culture or whatever. Each of us also knows a slew of bad games: the CD-i Mario and Zelda games, ET for Atari 2600, Superman 64, among others. Maybe you've played some of them, and if you have I feel your pain.

But what about those games of the past, good in their own time and fun even today, that everyone seems to have forgotten? I didn't hear about Burger Time until this month, I would have never even known Galaga if it weren't for the Galaga/Ms. Pac-Man. combination machines, Zero Wing is pretty fun if somewhat generic but nobody would have ever heard of it if the Sega Genesis translations weren't hilariously bad. And there's almost certainly others, most of which we have no idea of.

So this is for those games which are gone, forgotten, but still a Hell of a lot of fun. There's only so many classics released each year, and nobody would buy games or systems if the rest were bad. These are the vital laborers of the game world, the games which hold it up between the releases that everyone remembers for 20 years.

Shark! Shark! for the Intellivison was a classic game from 1982. In it, you control a fish (Or 2, if you so choose) and try to work your way up by eating other fish, as you grow in size, trying to become king of the sea. During all of this, you have to avoid being eaten by the black shark, which sometimes comes on the screen, looking for a snack.

All of this translate into an awesome game, that's fun to play by yourself, but an absolute blast with a buddy. If any of you get the chance to play this, don't pass it up. It is also on Intellivison Lives for the PS2, Xbox, and GCN.

For some reason, few people outside of /v/ remembers this game.

That is a problem.

The only people that know anything about it know only do because of the god awful sequel that's going to come out.

Popful Mail. Bar none, the best game released on the Sega CD (except maybe Sonic CD). What was the game? Imagine the CD-i Zelda games and what they'd be like if they didn't suck.

Jackal and Operation Wolf are two NES games I have that are awesome but don't seem to be popular.

The biggest game I remember from my childhood had to be SGT rock for the GBC, which was just awesome.

To be frank, thats because its outdated to gamer who started playing since, lets say 2004. Anyone before that can get a great time out of Deus Ex, but not as likely for those who are used to Mass Effect, Bioshock and the like.

GTA 3 it was the first game to introduce a free world simalar to modern america I play gta 4 but its not as original because it has items from other games such as cell phones messaging nfs style police chases its still fun but gta 3 was like an evolution point in game history it changed the way games were made but all the copies such as saints row, jak 2 and 3, scrface and the godfather arent as good as the first solid gta3 man its brings back memories

Deus Ex is one of my favourite games, spent countless hours on every mission, had the best elements from games to be said is one of the best games.

Also Vib Ribbon anyone?

Earthbound is awesome.

There is no such thing as someone who doesn't like the PS3, there is only poor people who can't afford one. PS3 owners pity you and hope you can one day get out of poverty.

Another World/Out of This World and Flashback. Two great games that not many people seem to remember. The graphics on those two games were really good for the time.

Prepare for unforeseen consequences.

I got another: Vectorman and Vectorman 2. A pair of awesomesauce Contra-esque shmups for the Genesis. Poor guy faded into obscurity until they tried a PS2 revival, which never amounted to anything...

No, that's a game time wishes it could forget. Though it's almost been successful successful in doing so: all the porn games on Atari 2600 are usually overshadowed by the controversial Custer's Revenge, the rest only trotted out as part of some kind of "package deal" where some reviewer reminds the rest of us that, hey, the controversial one wasn't the only pixel porn on the market in 1982.

Croc 2 was awful.

It was trying to be every successful platformer on the n64 at the same time. But doing none of them well.
