the drugs advisor for the UK government got fired after saying that cannabis, ecstacy etc. are less harmful than cigarettes or alcohol, despite there being huge amounts of evidence for this
linky
is this right, or a breach of rights? are they stupid, or am I naiive?

The truth does not bode well for a police state. Call him a political casualty, if the government doesnt want you to do something they'll stop at nothing to make sure you cant. Its called flexing your muscles.

there's no comfort in the truth pain is all you'll find
if i ignored you, it's probably because you're gay if i replied to you, it's probably because i felt the need to tell you that you're gay

It's stupid, but it happens with a government corrupt to the very and utter core. I wish I could say something could fix it, but where there is power, corruption gathers.

Just be glad that there isn't as much absolute power around anymore. I don't think absolute corruption is what the world needs right now.

It happens once in a while in a Democracy, but in a police state like the UK, it happens all the time.

That'd only be when they were all gathered in one place at the same time, the rest of the time, they'd carry their own fragments of corruption around with them, which leads to things like the MP expenses scandal.

In order to get that job he probably had to sign an agreement stating he wouldn't publicly say that weed isn't that bad for you, or words to that effect.

I think having different 'classes' of drugs is purely stupid. They should either be legal or not and stop dithering in the middle.
Not only would it make it nice and clear to the public. But also because I agree. Why stuff like 'Grass'/Weed (In the UK) is illegal whilst alcohol, which causes far worse problem on the whole, isn't illegal.

If you're going to work at a job, you're not going to contradict what your bosses are saying, even if they're saying things are are incorrect.
If you contradict the bosses in a public setting, or right in front of the bosses, those are reasonable grounds for firing.

It's obvious there will be corruption, but didn't think it would show itself so blatantly, how will they try and cover that up.

obviously, they failed- the Beeb got their hands on it so there's no point trying to cover up something everyone already knows about.
