In Zelda: Ocarina of Time.

I fucking hate it. I'm not sure if this is a shared aggression or just me, but frankly the Water Temple in oot is the worst display of controls I've ever seen in a Zelda game. Starting out, you have to switch back and forth between normal boots and the iron boots, get the longshot, etc. All in all it's kind of a boring temple, and not only that but the boss only took like 4 or 5 hits from the biggoron sword to kill anyway, which IMHO was way too easy.

And Dark Link was pretty overhyped. If you use the hammer or biggorons sword you pretty much win.

But this topic isn't really about the Water Temple, I'm just asking a simple question: Do you know of any other shitty levels in an otherwise perfect game? You know the kind.

It's a tedious process, but we did it just so we can get to the epic bossfight. Yeah, that tentacle rape jellyfish thing!

Prepare for unforeseen consequences.

Well 4-5 hits from the Biggorons Sword was enough to kill pretty much any boss in the game ;)

Yeah, but it's way more fun just trying to beat him with your master sword :)

I kinda dislike water levels in any game in general. Gloomy Galleon from DK64, the two water levels from Mario 64, Great Bay Temple from Majora's Mask etc. I think I just dislike the fact that you can hardly do anything about enemies attacking you, except swim away as fast as you can.

Shitty parts of great games? Oh yeah, I had a topic about that less than a week ago. I don't like the Marble Zone from the original Sonic, or the Special Stages in the second. And the Water Temple in OoT was annoying, yeah, but it's a Zelda tradition that a level in the middle of a lake is the hard one. That includes the ice level from A Link to the Past, the Great Bay Temple in Majora's Mask, and the water dungeon in Twilight Princess. Did Miyamoto nearly drown once that he thinks water is so bad? Though I wouldn't call them "bad" levels, just annoying ones.

The Water Temple wasn't really all that hard, it was actually pretty straightforward if you think about it. It was just long.

Anyway, I really hate the sewer level in Tales of Symphonia. It was just there to add on another half hour to the game, and was very repetitive. You push at least four blocks across the same catwalk in a very slow way, and then there's the continuous switching between being tiny and big. I'm really glad that they let you quick jump through it once it's been done once. Awesome game aside from there.

Water stages, in general, suck. They all seem to have a way of completely screwing up the gameplay.

Except for maybe the water levels in Donkey Kong Country...but maybe it's just that they're bearable because of the awesome music...

Biggorons Sword is like easy mode for that game. It's optional anyway, and it does twice the damage of the Master sword - the boss not being too annoying in that dungeon is good because I would be pissed if it was as annoying as the dungeon itself is.
If you want the game harder, play Master Quest.

I found the Water Temple to be the easiest in my opinion, I actually had a harder time on the shadow temple...but Bongo Bongo was easy to beat.

Personally I think the reason that water levels in a lot of games are so frustrating is because you have the extra worry about running out of oxygen and you either can't attack enemies or you're very limited in what attacks you can use.
Some of my least favorite levels ever are:

Rusty Bucket Bay in Banjo Kazooie. Surprise surprise it's a water level. I used to hate it level because I could never get the jiggy behind the ship's propellers (until I played the XBLA version last year) and it used to bug the crap out of me. That and the whole level just looked dilapidated and shitty, giving it a miserable atmosphere. I know that's what it's supposed to look like and you wouldn't expect any different from a dirty ship in polluted water but I always found it a really stark contrast from the rest of the game.

Chemical Plant Zone in Sonic 2. I always used to drown just before the boss when the water level rises. And the drowning music in Sonic games used to scare the shit out of me. I heard that music A LOT of times at this part of the game.

High Security Compound on Tomb Raider 3. I fucking hate levels where you lose all your weapons, but this one takes it one step further and robs all your medikits as well. God help you if you chose the Nevada levels last because you lose everything you've been stockpiling throughout the whole game.

I found the stone tower temple in Majora's Mask far more aggravating than the water temple. Probably the most confusing temple of any zelda game ever. It's like a huge middle finger after climbing all the way up the sucker.

A lot of video game characters are given Super Drowning Abilities to remove the possibilities of having a water level and the freedom to move in three dimensions.

..i hated it soooooo much... even the developers hated it, I know this because they added a secret that lets you practically skip the level.

Water Temple was laughable easy compared to the Shadow Temple in the same game, and Stone Tower in the Sequel.

Stone Tower was hardcore.

When I was thirteen I got a stiff fucking courtesy of the Water Temple. I got caught with a bad case of the "where's that last fucking key-itis." I came back a few years later and it was pretty much a cakewalk. I guess it all depends on the mindset you come into it with. Sometimes the puzzles just click when you could have just as easily busted a blood vessel over it.

That Temple is the only thing keeping me from playing the game often. The subquest that leads to it is pretty much the most awesome subquest ever in a Zelda game, though.

I think the only franchises that had good water stages were the ones where you didn't actually have to go into the water.

Hey water not that hard It's the easiest of the adult level puzzle wise sure the whirlpool sucks(the first time that is.) after that you realize the iron boots make it much easier.

Saying level is hard just cause the first time you played it you sucked, It'd be like the way I was about the forest temple(o.ot) where I hated it 'cuz it took me a month to figure it out. This is why if something takes either a lot a lives(20+) or is too confusing, if a guide's out there I try it dozen times if that don't work I cheat.
