First of all, I am very thankful to the NG team for making a nice update to the audio portal. Before the update, it had a very dull format. Even though it was simple, musicians like me had an average feedback and people were "conscious". All I am saying is that, 2-3 years ago (when i started with fruity loops etc... i knew nothing back then), people would give 5's and review your stuff, and helped you improve.

I mean... damn... I hear the things that I've done back then, it sounds like shit!! Now I have much more experience with music in general, and they don't sound like shit, I'm sure of that. In a matter of fact, I'm sure that they're 1000x better than the songs I did in the beginning.

So, what's my complaint about? Well, I keep getting low scores... no reviews at all, the feedback is close to none. I feel ridiculous everytime I need to boost up my score by voting 5 in my songs, just to get some people to hear it. And... the same songs that were played back then (those outdated techno/eurotrance songs... sorry if i'm being offensive) are still popular these days. So yeah... I'm not doing that.

The fact is... people should look for unknown artists more. They keep giving attention only to what's hip, and only vote either a 0 or a 5, there's nothing in between (plus they're lazy to review). The problem is not newgrounds... but its users. I miss the supportive and receptive community of NG. Newgrounds isn't about the popular guys, it's about everyone.

Shouldn't rely on others to find you. You should also take the initiative to getting people to put your music in their animations. Go talk with artists in the flash forum collab threads and convince em to use your stuff for their works

I agree completely. Most reviews are like this:

"lolol that was funny man xdxd claps dawg"

And this:

"sucks balls"

It'd be great if most reviews were helpful and gave constructive criticism.

look gaiz i can do it 2

I agree with this. my friend submitted some songs before he scraped his acount, it took 4 months for somone to review it constructivly. I think there were two other eviews somewhere along the lines of:

7/11

summary: OK

It's kind of funny how this thread would have probably been bitch slapped all the way to hell if it had been placed in the Audio forum.

But really, the problem has been debated by many a people, and those debaters are masters of their art, and well then there are some that just post "Oh i agree with such and such about that". There is even a thread about this very thing in the audio forum.

Zerovoting and Exposure

So, yes it does suck that we have to go out of our way to get noticed, when someone popular just has to post a new song with their name in the title, and then POOF they get a thousand veiw and votes. But just be patient and work hard on it, even if it takes years. =3

The NG audio portal can be very demeaning to aspiring artists. Don't expect any constructive critique if your submitting a song to get some tips. It'll be down voted in minutes and nobody will ever see it. And since you're here, demanding attention, I'll listen to whatever it is you got.

hmmm i try to give constructive criticism but i know nothing about making music..i usually just post 'supportive' reviews...and i tend to vote on audio more than anything else ( why dont we get EXP for voting on audio... )

Thanks for your overall support. I was kind of scared when I posted this. As someone noticed, the probability of "bitchslap to the face" was high. But your tips were pretty useful, and supportive. Well, that's something that Tom Fulp and his crew could do, gain exp by voting on ALL forums. It's really unfair this way to begin with. Maybe I'll start to use the forum a bit more from now on. Thanks again!
