Well that's a very profound question. I guess we all seek some happiness in our lives whether it be through a deity, propagation of our species, or just satiating that ancient urge to destroy. Well, being an atheist, the reason I don't do any of the mentioned things is because society expects more out of you than just being an asshole. Through the process of evolution, natural selection has favored traits that help our species grow and prosper. Things like child molestation, theft, murder etc. don't really help us so they've been put on the "bad" side of morality.

I guess morality doesn't need a God to exist. Whatever helps the community prosper is deemed beneficial for society and whatever doesn't help us is deemed detrimental. That's why we don't do the things you said. It doesn't help the whole lot of us, just you. The genes for all the things you just mentioned should've been procreated out of existence by now. Since it hasn't I guess I'll just have to ask you to do it for us and kill yourself.

The studies I have found regarding your claim only found an increase of two to three years for churchgoers. There of plenty of people who believe in god who don't attend church.

Also, these studies were only carried out in the U.S.; when you observe global life expectency statistics your entire assertion crumbles.

Compare the above statistics with which countries consider religion to be most important, and with a couple of exceptions you can clearly see that the countries with the least amount of religious interest usually have life expectencies that are at least a decade higher than those of the more religious ones.

What was it like before you were born?

Exactly.

Only black is true, only death is real.

I couldn't tell you what to expect to be honest, I have never planned for my death, so i have never planned an afterlife. I figure it would be like when I sleep. calm, and at peace. If by chance there is a heaven, and hell, I hear god is a pretty forgiving guy. If there isn't, and it is over, well then I have lived my life to how i saw fit, and I will be at peace.

People often do good things for the greater good, not just so they can get in to heaven or to see their loved ones again.

People believe in progressing as a species not just as an individual. Open your eyes to the world, there's a whole lot more to see.

More along the lines of "they have a genetic predisposition."

I can't wait to see how the religious community reacts once we have hard evidence that true instances of homosexuality is due to a genetic predisposition.

It's not because they "want" to be at all. It comes down to the way a person's sexual identity is established during fetal development.

Because I always wondered that if there was no hell then why dont I just rape, murder and steal if I wont have to suffer for it when I die (unless I am captured by the cops but I will still have done things to make me happy). Im not trying to force any christian or other religious beliefs but I know many people here on newgrounds are athiest (what i know of) so what do you expect when you die?

You don't do these things because you fear god. You don't do them because you believe they are wrong. Religious beliefs don't always effect people who commit crimes. Many circumstances are the cause of that.

As for expecting something when you die. Expecting something is as foolish as expecting nothing. Expecting nothingness is no different from expecting an all knowing being in the coulds, or a red demon torturing you.

I'd rather not risk going to hell.

Nothing to lose, right?

Ding ding, Godwins law!

But again, as many have pointed out, Hitler was christian, and well, as you though, he thought what he did was morally right.

And as I said in the earlier pages, those are the people you need to watch out for. It's always the good people who start wars that kill millions.

1. Your body rots in the ground
2. Your brain rots in the ground

3. WTF happens to your conscious?

Seeing as it's hard to define "life" in the first place I don't even want to try defining "consciousness". I know I have one, you don't know for sure that I have one and I don't know for sure that you have one.

I don't believe any of the religions have it right.
I don't believe any of them will ever have it right.
I don't believe science will ever explain a consciousness.
I believe science can explain nearly everything else.

When I fall asleep it's sorta like my conscious skips ahead in time. It's impossible to imagine what would happen when you fall asleep for good (die). It seems fairly obvious to me that my conscious is attached to my physical brain. So when that goes away what does the conscious do? One possibility is that it detaches itself from the body and finds a new physical object to attach to. A new baby, an alien on a distant planet, a computer, a robot. Sounds a bit like reincarnation. Although it's entirely possible there's a separate realm of existence for consciousnesses. Who knows it's pointless to think about while we're here.

Atheism falls apart when you try to figure out what a conscious is.
Religion falls apart when it tries to explain anything with certainty.

Therefore, I consider myself unaffiliated. I don't know if there's a higher being or not. I don't know how to explain a consciousness. I don't care, I'm enjoying my time here on Earth so why bother thinking about what happens after death?

The flaw in any organized school of thought is that it states its beliefs as fact. You can't prove anything so both extremes (atheist, religious) are WRONG. Well I can't say that for sure, they COULD be right, after all.

But I don't care. The universe is a wonderful place, enjoy it while you're here.
