Next week will return to the Game of the Week, which brings me to the elephant in the room; YES, there are still amazing Power of Three games in the works! For those just joining us, Power of Three was a summer event where artists, programmers and musicians joined forces to make the most epic line-up of Flash games EVER. A lot of Po3 teams never got their ideas off the ground, while others are still trudging forward.
Its cool though that we have what we do, and since you can't be in the room with people guiding them and mentoring them individually, its up to people to be self motivated. Personally, I was very happy as a player with a lot of the games that came out of it and in general they were a higher quality game than what we normally see on newgrounds.
I regret we have yet to relaunch Alphas as a promotional tool for Po3 projects but Alphas are still on the way and games in progress should have a chance to use them this year.
I have to say the more I think of Alphas the more I like it as a motivational tool. Ideally, it would be awesome to have Versioning/Publishing set of pages that accommodated initial script ideas, followed by story boards, that then moved in to working swfs and artwork and then had pages for recruiting voice actors and having them submit their audio and then a publish final project to portal button.
But that sounds like an extremely far reaching goal, and if Newgrounds ever went that route, I'd love to see the API more functional and perhaps tied into a server app to enhance multi player games on top of everything else.
Leaving no stone unturned, we're planning an even crazier event around the production of movies. It will combine writers, artists, animators, musicians and voice actors in a structured competition that spans several phases.
This is exciting, but I'd like to see it more fully formed, so I'd rather be patient and get a good product than get it immediately.
It's something I've been keeping tucked away in anticipation of a Writing Portal, but for now we might just have to settle for opening a Writing Forum
Glad to hear that!
The forums have been missing something since users haven't been able to post stories on an individual basis. And while some of that stuff was better gone from general, it meant the gems had to go too. :(
I've wanted a place for a while where writers could come specifically on this site to discuss different subjects in a forum setting instead of in a single thread.
cool stuff all around.
