Since the release and hype surrounding beatles rockband, I have for about the last two months been rediscovering the beatles and watching a ton of videos on youtube. For probably about a month I could not get over how good they were and my renewed appreciation of them was incredible. i kept thinking about how amazing it would have been if they didnt break up, or at least if Lennon had not gotten shot they might have gotten back together.
Sometimes i would think about how amazing it would be to actually go see them perform today (well...minus george) and how it would be so great. This was all fine and dandy until I started watching videos of paul performing recently and his new songs. He looked haggard and worn down, he had these pretty boys backing up his vocals, and his new songs were just generic and plain.
I then started to think about all the other old bands that are still around today like the beach boys, rolling stones, aerosmith, acdc, kiss and i began to realize something. Fuck No!!! i wouldnt ever want to see them perform today! They would be shadows of their former selves, trying to cling on to the last bits of glory. I pictured John with balding long gray hair, still trying to be some sort of hippie rebel with the wrinkled up old twat yoko ono standing near by. They would come out with unoriginal new albums with recycled old songs and people would buy them and say they were good, but in their hearts they would know that they were piles of dogshit compared to Abbey Road and Sgt Pepper.
But... Maybe just maybe the beatles were two awesome for that. The creative forces that flowed from them would somehow survive and and continue on for 40 more years. When they performed live yeah they would be old, but they would still rock the shit. Maybe they would still be something great
I've thought about this for a long time now and finally realized that maybe this would make a good topic on the bbs. So what do you guys think. If they were still around today would they just be shitty attempts to stay relevant, or would they still be a relevant and amazing band?
