I'm glad they took it out, and I hope they start to phase that in nation-wide."Under god" is an archaic relic, a completely untrue and noninclusive statement that actually IS offensive and stupid, unlike many other complaints regarding political correctness. The state that a nation is "under god" presupposes that the only correct religion is the religion where a single omnipotent god exists, when clearly significant populations exist in the US of Polytheists, and the non-religious, who have just as much empirical evidence of the truth of their respective religions as Christians do of theirs.

If you care, say "under God" in your own damn head, where it doesn't bother anybody else in the world.

Just as others have said "under god" was added later to the pledge and was never meant to be there.

Your point is invalid.

You honestly think that every right is god given? Or that the bible wasnt written by a man?

All right, if we followed the bible, I would be beating women and children all over the place right now.

This is very annoying. I could give two shits about the pledge of allegiance but they're raping the english dictionary. Anything with a masculine suffix, like 'men' gets the suffix replaced with 'person' but anything that has a feminine suffix, like 'ess' doesn't. That's sexist.

The original pledge did not have under god in it. Under god was added in the 50s.

America rights were founded by the Bible, but we dont give a rats ass about God anymore?

Still not make sense?

What the fuck are you on about, dipshit?
It wasn't taken out for "Political Correctness", people who aren't religious or a different religion shouldn't have to pledge allegance (Read:Swear to Serve) God if they don't believe in it. And this has been going on since the fucking 50's. AND there's a law against it, Seperation of Church and State was one of the principles our country was founded upon, dumbass.

I thought we implemented that phrase back during the Cold War because Communists don't believe in God, or something along those lines.

America was founded and established by a Christian population. Back then, different religions meant different branches of Christianity. Either that or if you were Jew, which was still technically worshiping the same god. Although I don't give a shit, it was still a major part of America's culture and to take that away is stupid. It's like cows and Hindu's (Wtf?), Hindu's in India believe the Cow is a sacred animal and give them healthy lives. As of right now, you can see cows walking around the Rural streets of India. To hit or touch a cow over there (unless you were a high status) was like a sin, even right now. If I went to India right now and touched a cow, I would probably piss off a lot of Hindu's. To see America do that is outrageous! Let's say I'm a foreigner, If I didn't say the part about God in that pledge, I bet I would piss off a lot of Christians. Respect your Country's culture or get the fuck out, don't pull it out cause some people get offended by that little line -_-

Were ot forced to. Many people just do it out of habit. There is a large portion of people who just sit during the pledge. Even if they are saying it, it is a ten second little oath, I wouldn't call it suffering.

Well said. Every thread that ever had a prideful atheist post in it needs something like this. Really now, I've grown quite bored with the hubris some of you guys inflate your "enlightened" heads with.

Doesn't anyone here find it ironic that most of the atheists here are calling God a lie/fairy tale/etc. while celebrating the open-mindedness of America? Congrats guys.

If it bothers YOU then YOU can say it.
I'm sure if "god" really needed us to say "under god" every morning, he would use his divine power to make us.

Don't you just fucking love England?

You know, how your school never forced you to spout bullshit that you never believed in?
How the churches are relegated to a small community thing that only is payed attention to during weddings and funerals?
About how nobody really gives a fuck about what religion has to say to do with politics? And hasn't done since the monarchy was relegated to public figurehead alone?
How about that you could easily insult religion without an army of evangelists turning up on your door and trying to convert you? Even better, how you get NO ONE coming around to your door randomly trying to convert you?

I fucking love England.

Why, because an unconstitutional phrase has been removed after it was implemented 50 years ago as an anti-Communist propaganda tactic?

It was gonna happen eventually. Too many close-minded asses, want to make everything "politically correct," when being such actually offends more people. Telling us to open our minds, when it's their minds that need opening (not everyone, but enough of the population I believe).

I think you've misunderstood the definition of close-minded. An example of being close minded would be making everyone say "under God" in the pledge, no matter what religion they are. And really, does taking out "Under God" really offend more people? Perhaps it does, but should it really? It's not like they changed it to "One Nation, fuck you God." Taking it out would be the "open-minded" thing to do.

My example: "Merry Christmas." Isomeone doesn't celebrate it, then kindly say so. We'll be nice and say it the way you want us to; you can still celebrate Kwanzaa, Hannukah, and any other holiday around this time.

Isn't that pretty much what just happened? They kindly said so, and now we can say it the way that doesn't offend anyone.

But really, I don't see why we even bothered to change it. When was the last time you said the pledge and it changed your life and your patriotism? Or the last time that you actually cared what words that you were mindlessly muttering routinely? Taken out or kept there, it truly doesn't make that much of a difference.

It really makes no difference to me as my school doesn't say the pledge.

No, because people have their heads so far up their own asses that they make a huge fuss about crap that hardly matters. This is as bad as when they changed the term "Christmas tree" to "Holiday tree".

you do have the right to religion, I am not say your don't, but building a country revolved around what God has given us, its more of a token of appreciation for this great land he has blessed us with. Its not like we are pushing a religion onto people we are embracing what created this country good values and rights given to us by God.
