God was dreamt up by someone chewing magic mushrooms in the middle-east and then eventually used as an oppressive tool to keep millions of plebs throughout the world in line.

Good for America for shaking off this ridiculous tag.

Good, it's about time the mass of American populace learned to move on a bit. If you want to continue worshipping and believing, continue doing so, but people don't wanna see it on their money, the nation does not want to look like 'the one that never grew up'. Because we all know, in the big-bad real world, nobody likes the 'one who didn't grow up'.

This is completely right. It is in fact, not true that Theism goes back before history.

Our rights were founded on specifications found in the Bible, man did not give you your right, they are all God given rights. No "man" gave you those rights.

I hate that everything today is revolved about not offending anyone. If you don't believe in what this country was founded on then you can GTFO. Now that we have removed God from the equation we might as well take our right with it because that is exactly what your saying by removing him from anything political. The people who changed it should be punished, I dont care if If it was the president himself, he should not be in office for even allowing this to happen, we did not found this country on what he believes in. It was the traditional Bible, No "man" has no right to remove what we have created America's base of life on.

What are your thoughts, really im pissed that ALL THE SUDDEN something is wrong because someone said God is great too many times to the wrong person.

You sir, are a troll AND a moron
This country was completely NOT founded on christianity! The founding fathers were mostly deists, and there was never any grain of truth in America being a christian nation. Just because some people believe in religion, doesnt mean we should all abide by its teachings. Its a system to protect the minority- lest we become like nations with "beard patrols" to ensure people follow the practices of islam.
I say there was ALWAYS something wrong with the phrase. I can tell how uneducated you really are because the phrase HASNT BEEN IN THE PLEDGE FOR 100 YEARS! It was added in by Eisenhower! About 50 years or so ago? Idiot. This nation is in NO WAY under god, even if most of the citizens are. Its in the eye of the beholder. I dont think we should all be subjected to reciting "under god", when it is something that an increasing number of people dont buy into.
I think that YOU should GTFO, since you obviously dont understand the founding principals of our country, such as seperation of church and state, and freedom FROM religion. If "god" is the one who gives us all our rights, why are people in some countries NOT entitled to free speech, and all our other rights? Because the LEADERS of these countries dont allow it. Sounds like a man given right to me...
We didnt found this country on what you believe in either. The person who removes that from the pledge should be given a dam medal. We have every right to remove it because america is not founded on "god" in any way.
Excert from the treaty of tripoli, 1797: "the government of the United States is not, in any sense, founded on the Christian religion."
GTFO, now

Religion has no place in school. If you want to thank god for whatever you can always do it in your own time. There are plenty of churches and fellow Christians and god-related TV channels for you to praise da lawd as much as you like.

Yeah, I think is was Teddy Roosevelt who suggested it was put in there.

Eisenhower did it (not alone, of course, nor did he come up with the idea) in 1954 or so.

Wow, I might have a little fun on this thread. Ok, now off to business:

1. Do YOU know what this country was found upon? Freedom. Freedom to choose any religion we want; freedom to say what we want; freedom to do things that we want to do without punishment. 200 years later, we still have these freedoms, although some of them are now controlled by laws. But we still have them. So basically, I can say what I want (under the right circumstances) and I can pray to any god that I want, if I want a god.

2. Now, you mention rights; god-given rights more specifically. If they are god given rights, they why isn't it equal all over the world. Different countries have different numbers of rights. And some people have no rights at all. Take a look at this link to learn about your fuckin', god-given rights. Around five minutes is when he starts talking about rights. But watch the whole thing.

We still do it. It's funny because we're exposed to tons of different religions all the time in school and one little phrase in the pledge of allegiance is frowned upon.

Yes, I can't believe these sick liberals exist. You know, when I watched Fox News, they arrested a muslim that was going to kill some politicians. Me personally, would have loved to see him kill some of those liberals. Unfortunately, that didn't happen. So Obama's just trying to dictate our country and that's why people hate him. I think he's just the next Richard Nixon, except he made it past election. I bet he wouldn't have gotten in office if it wasn't for ACORN and the stupid obama central's. It's politicians like Barney Franks and that senator of Florida that makes me want to kill someone. So personally, I would say blame the liberals and vote their ass out in 2010, so that way we don't have any of them as house of representatives. Well that's all for now!

Honestly I couldn't care less, what if it said one nation under Allah? Then maybe I would, but the fact is that the term god doesn't just mean the Jewish/Christian god. It just means god, it could mean any god, just because Jews couldn't come up with a better name, doesn't mean that their god is the only god.

I'm not a fan of the pledge in general, mainly because they force it on young children, which is similar to what they did at Nazi camps. Just saying.

The Pledge has been changed four times.

Everything today needs to be politically correct. There was nothing wrong with the phrase 10 years ago or even 100 years ago, why all the sudden there is it a conflict.

"Under God" wasn't IN the pledge 100 years ago. It was added in 1954.

I hate that everything today is revolved about not offending anyone. If you don't believe in what this country was founded on then you can GTFO.

That's original.

Now that we have removed God from the equation we might as well take our right with it because that is exactly what your saying by removing him from anything political.

Constitution doesn't say anything about God, and the Declaration only refers to a creator.

The people who changed it should be punished, I dont care if If it was the president himself, he should not be in office for even allowing this to happen,

Even MORE original.

What are your thoughts,

I think you need to do some research. Good place to start.

I heard this as well, so it may as well be an excellent argument for the opposite side.

Here's the original pledge, according to wikipedia...

"I Pledge Allegiance to my Flag and the Republic for which it stands, one nation indivisible with liberty and justice for all."

Things change bro. Who cares about 'under god'? That wasn't added until 1954 anyways.

Because God is a myth. How can our nation be under a nonexistant person. Also, if it's a free country why do we pledge alliegance to a colorful piece of cloth?

Anyone who cares about having "god" in the plege is a pussy.

There are better things to worry about and nobody is forcing you say shit. Real me don't fucking care... only faggots and cry babies waste their days whining about shit like that.

On the other side, I don't fucking care if it's not there either. Just, in this case, since it's been there for a long fucking time, I'd say leave it. It's not actually hurting anyone. People just use it as an excuse to bitch because people are pathetic and want attention.

Yeah, that includes me. Fuck you, your mom is a whore.

Why does it really matter?

I mean, at my school we don't even bother saying the pledge. They always do it on the intercom, but no one really pledges anymore. To be quite honest, it gets annoying saying the same shit over and over again everyday.

It seems(to me, at least) an important part of separating church from state. Don't be so butthurt it's not a denouncement of God. Also, your rights are given to you by the people who decided on the Bill of Rights, those rights aren't God given, they are secular and independent from the bible. There's no freedom of speech in the bible, no right to bear arms or even to a fair trial, those and the rest are modern morals and are not from the time the bible refers to.

Also the meaning is more specific now and doesn't allow for as much extremism or excuses in the event of a corrupt president.

If they did that at my school I'd just yell "One Nation Under God!" when we're saying the pledge. They can't give me detention or anything for it, thank god for freedom of speech.

I agree with you, if it has been there since the founding of the damn country then it is more of a historic value than anything to do with religion, I would be pissed off if a bunch of "recently" immigrated people came and demanded to change something that has been there since the beginning because they find it offensive, these people find everything offensive. If they dislike so many things about the country why the hell did they come or are still living there.

I just think some things should be left alone, especially something small like that which has always been there, it is NOT hurting anyone!

The under god part was added in 1954 during the Red Scare.

It has nothing to do with what America was founded on. America is a secular country founded on secular principles.

Christian liars will be the first to tell you otherwise.
