America just makes me sick, today during class we did the pledge and they took out "One Nation Under God". It Pisses me off that our generation is they generation to change it. Everything today needs to be politically correct. There was nothing wrong with the phrase 10 years ago or even 100 years ago, why all the sudden there is it a conflict. Our rights were founded on specifications found in the Bible, man did not give you your right, they are all God given rights. No "man" gave you those rights.

I hate that everything today is revolved about not offending anyone. If you don't believe in what this country was founded on then you can GTFO. Now that we have removed God from the equation we might as well take our right with it because that is exactly what your saying by removing him from anything political. The people who changed it should be punished, I dont care if If it was the president himself, he should not be in office for even allowing this to happen, we did not found this country on what he believes in. It was the traditional Bible, No "man" has no right to remove what we have created America's base of life on.

What are your thoughts, really im pissed that ALL THE SUDDEN something is wrong because someone said God is great too many times to the wrong person.

My class still says it, and if you are that much in disagreement with it then you should continue to say it even if other people have stopped.

They finally did it?

It was gonna happen eventually. Too many close-minded asses, want to make everything "politically correct," when being such actually offends more people. Telling us to open our minds, when it's their minds that need opening (not everyone, but enough of the population I believe).

My example: "Merry Christmas." Isomeone doesn't celebrate it, then kindly say so. We'll be nice and say it the way you want us to; you can still celebrate Kwanzaa, Hannukah, and any other holiday around this time. We aren't full of hate, you know.

Still, I'm shocked I didn't hear about this in the news. You'd think I would, you'd think they'd make a legal battle out of it.

Not only that. But some religions try to wipe out peopl cause of their beliefs, age, gender, sexual oriantation, color of ther skin, etc. America was founded on the bases that all people are to be free and equall. It says so right in the U.S Constitution. First Amendment gives a person the freedom Of religion, freedom of the press and freedom of speach. Thomas Paine was not Americas godfather for no reason. He helped create this country through his works like: Common Sense; which sparked the American Revolution, THe Age Of Reason; which many peopl found offensive cause it talks about how we all have rights under the creator and that you gotta look at the past to know what the truth and the future is. Beliving the words of one book is not the answer you must read many books to get to the answer. The past is fact not fiction.

They took it out because of all the different religions and the growing atheist population. I always found myself skipping over that sentence anyway, because I'm an atheist. If you want, you can think it or say it to yourself, but there's no reason to force it upon others.

And just because when America was founded we were ignorant enough to believe in a god, it doesn't mean we should mix it with politics or everyday life.

America was built to be flexible and tolerant, so deal with it or GTFO, as you feel so inclined to say.

I code in AS2, in case I forgot to mention it.

I completely disagree. I'm glad they took it out. It's bad enough they indoctrinate the pledge to children from a young age, adding god into that is even worse.
There was something wrong with the phrase from the beginning. Many of our forefathers would not agree with how much of a role 'god' has played in our politics and government.
What are you going on about God-given rights? Man made everything up, so any right you have is man-made.

I hate that everything today is revolved about not offending anyone. If you don't believe in what this country was founded on then you can GTFO. This country was not founded on being one nation under god. If that's what you think, I think you need a refresher course in history. Also, this country is about change. Don't ever tell anyone who wants to change things to GTFO. Also, lol, why do you think this country was founded on the bible? You sound like you're obsessed with that silly old book.
If man put something there, he can take it back if he wants. ;)

What are your thoughts, really im pissed that ALL THE SUDDEN something is wrong because someone said God is great too many times to the wrong person.

I think you're a religious nutjob who is butthurt about little kids no longer being forced to have exposure to your god.

That's just stupid, but whatever. My point up ^ remains the same (despite the typo I just caught).

However, there'd be a plus side to this one: the old coins with "in God we trust" would have some value. We could make some good money off our nickels and dimes!

In theory, of course.

I have a friend who, during the pledge everyday, sits down and says "Bow to your leader".

Considering that the entire thread is about how they are changing this for POLITICAL reasons, yeah, Ithink it does. And you know what? I'm perfectly okay with you believing in God. I'm an Agnostic myself. But you shouldn't force your religion down someone elses throat.

Not everyone is a theist. I don't agree with it on some things like "Blackboard", for instance though.

We didn't even say the pledge so often in High School. Our principal would start the school year strong: for the first two weeks almost every day. Then by week three he'd say it over the intercom maybe once or twice. Once September ended, only a handful of times.

But yea, the pledge of allegiance is a pretty stupid tradition. As if I ever believed in what I was saying. Most people are only doing it because everyone else is and they don't see harm in it.

As far as I know, this court case was decided years ago. They simply removed 'under God', "... one nation, indivisible, with liberty and justice for all." Flows just as well. I heard somewhere that 'under God' wasn't even in the original pledge, but that it was added years later.

Maybe it's just your school. We recited the Pledge this morning and we said "under God". It hasn't changed, and I wouldn't care if it did.

I heard this as well, so it may as well be an excellent argument for the opposite side.

Yeah, I think is was Teddy Roosevelt who suggested it was put in there.
