Well, i dunno dubstep has more in common with dnb than hip hop...
But shit me not, it does have hip-hop influences, especially from artists like joker and plastician.
I say this because dubstep tends to have a heavy reliance on sub-bass and heeeeavy basslines, which is very similar to drum n bass in that regard. Although the drum 'patterns' and melodies which most producers follow do draw heavily on reggae, 2-step, garage and hip-hop (sometimes glitch), depending on the dubstep 'style' they are trying to get across. I can quote people on saying that it has influences from tech house aswell, just look up 'dubstep documentry' on youtube.
With dubstep being a recently formed genre, there are still many areas of the sound where people have not yet ventured into. My fav style of dubstep at the mo is the sort of minimal/ambient style stuff, coming from artist like 16 bit and distance.
In short, i submit mine to the drum n bass genre here at ng, not because of my reasons above, but because I think the people who linger in the drum n bass genre of ng will appreciate my dubstep the most... (also me being a dnb head myself)
