programmer needed for "Gustave"

Hello everybody. I'm an art student and I need an Actionscript programmer (AS3 would be great). I have this project which is nearly done for the graphics and now I need your help. It's not very difficult to code this, it's basically a Grow-type puzzle game.

Anyway, that's a strange art style you have there... Although I highly doubt how successful a game like this can be commercially, artistically it looks very interesting.

Your reasoning makes no sense to me. Who says the artist included the 'vulgarity' in this piece to purposely get a higher rating? Ever thought of the fact that this may be the artist's style (which, after looking at his other work, certainly seems to be the case)? Why should he limit himself creatively to appeal to a larger crowd? Besides if you consider this to have any shock value at all you have clearly been raised in a very protective environment. I don't think a pair of tits will shock anyone who's spend some time on the internet.

You can call it 'artistic style' if you want to, but the point people here are trying to make that due to his 'artistic style', not many will want to work with him. If I were looking for a project (which I'm not atm), I wouldn't want to work with him either on this project due to him giving a cat unshaped saggy boobs, lol.

Second I find it very funny and interesting you can consider a creature like that obcene (it's what you suggested, right ?). As I'm still a student and don't have any commercial contract, I have no age restriction and I enjoy it. I am not fond of no limit pornography art. My only restriction is my own decency and believe me it's a big one. Because I have my own privacy and some things I just don't want to share with other people. If you consider breasts as obscene, it's just because they have been hidden from you since you're young so when you see one (even drawn!) it's shocking. I fight against that. What you don't know is that I'm a feminist activist and part of my work is about the misunderstandings between genders and their representations. You can see each character in this game has a female characteristic (eyelashes, curves, sexy legs). Those breasts aren't shown as an erotic object I think. The fact is, you don't even tell what feeling grows in you when you like at this female monster. You just point it and say "there are breasts !" so it's difficult for me to argue to this point. Is it erotic to you ? disrespectful ? I had fun drawing them, just as the monkey's ass.

Third, I'm sad you wouldn't code because of that. I'll have to find somebody else.

I guess I didn't emphasize my point enough. I don't have a problem with breasts. What I find disturbing is that they are on a CAT. I like animals, especially cute little furry creatures to which group cats fall in to. You portraying a cute genderless creature in a vulgar way like that, to me is little disturbing. And yes I said genderless. I know there are mama-cats and papa-cats but when I look at a cat I don't see it's gender, I see a cute cat, it's gender is meaningless to me. So if you were looking to shock people with that, you succeeded at least with me, but not because I saw bare saggy breasts for the first time, but because I saw them first time on a CAT.

Regarding the dude's actual request for a programmer - what would be expected, how much work would there be, etc? Any compensation? I may be interested in helping you out, just need to know if I could fit it into my current schoolwork, etc.

I can understand your intention better now. Still don't like it though... But that's because I'm not a fan of tearing down cultural values - at least not to such an extent. The whole 'free your body' movement was and is a mistake. Though it may have been done with good intentions, it serves to desensitise people, emphasise the physical and enable pornographers to push further and closer to the public eye. Modesty is an important part of being human and it can't and shouldn't be thrown away entirely. Keeping women in full body suits or obligating them to cover up their wrists and ankles is excessive certainly, but a balance must be maintained. Modesty is beautiful.

I understand what your point is ProfessorFlash. You're right : It IS disturbing. But it is a monster, not a cat. That's why it laughs too. Here are two drawings of female cats I found in a book about monsters after I made my own. One is an african illustration and the other is from india.

I'm aware that when you do something, you'll have an audience. I am 23 and want more games like killer7 even if I love pikmin. I think it's about time to explore what we can do in a game. That's why, even if my game looks like an rpg, it's actually a puzzle game. And on newgrounds, there are ratings to protect children from a game trauma so I think it's cool.

The game doesn't exist yet, why I posted here is not to defend this game, it's to find a developper to help me making it. So if you want to be part of a game people will talk about a lot (seems like) please join. The work here isn't big at all. It's an eyemaze's grow type game :

Are you planning to get the game sponsored?

If there was a reason to the breasts then I might script it but you should probably re-think them.

Ok, I consider the artistic / nudity plot over. If you want to, I'll answer any PM. If you hesitate helping me with the code because of the breasts, just stop considering working on this game, it'll be easier this way. I expect people working on a game to be proud of it, that's why it's so important.

What I call a grow-type game is a puzzle game which works more or less like a mastermind. You have to click on eight buttons (two by character) to see the eight different actions. for example, one action is putting a seed in the grow, the other is a rain dance so you have to do it in this order, else it's gonna rain before the seed is in the ground. It gets more complicated when it's not that obvious and when there are not 2 but 8 actions. It's a game you have to restart again and again until you figure out the right combination.

You have to play eyezmaze games to fully understand how this is going to work.
