Sup guys, my flash portfolio website is www.luciddesign.co.za, and I tend to do alot of marketing via facebook, trying to make it more viral. Now facebook has a Share button which you can drag into your browser to post a website or blog on your wall, its also at the bottom of most blogs, I'm sure you are familiar with it.

The shared content cosists of text and meta data, and an image. Being a flash ONLY site, my question is how do I get facebook to detect and pickup an image so that the facebook post has a thumbnail???

Thanks!
Yash

You don't, you stop using the wrong medium. This site has no reason not to be built using xhtml and css, flash is unnecessary.

I second the first reply that flash is inferior to HTML and CSS, partly due to SEO drawbacks.

However, if you want to get a screenshot, a way that could work is to get a full screenshot of your webage. You could then put it into an HTML file, and add the needed title tags into that file, and then put it in a subdomain such as "p.yourdomain.com". Then just stick in a 301 redirect on that subdomain to your real site, link to the new subdomain on Facebook, and that should work!

Even though flash is now considered a draw back to official website development, flash does give the user a more interactive feel and if people are not good at layouts or javascript etc, then flash is a easy fallback.

If you have a lot of $ to burn, that kind of thinking works but if you can't afford to keep upgrading your hosting or to pay for a dedicated server instead of shared hosting, then it doesn't work. Flash might be interactive but CSS is better. JS? No, it can be disabled by the browser, use php instead if you want interactive stuff on the site. However, this is a portfolio site so you need to consider the audience that you're trying to reach to view your stuff and potentially hire you. Anyone who hires a flash programmer will most likely want you to be able to write applications in flash, not flash based websites anyway.

I guess I see what you mean. So, what your saying about the flash is that you should have some knowledge of it and be able to create specific things to incorporate into the site, but do not completely create the site in flash.
