Actually, just thinking about this, you've got to wonder where the price comes from. The game itself only costs about $50. Then you've got the included game demo's which probably are about $30-$40. The packaging might be up to $20. An artbook which really depends who wants it, but lets say $100. Then there's the artifact which couldn't have cost more than $100 to make.
Really, whoever buys this is getting ripped off and they know it.

This isn't a collector's edition, it's an actual rarity. Only a few of them exist.
Remember the NES tournament that Nintendo hosted a while back? At they end, they gave out 26 gold plated NES cartridges that had the three games played in the torunament. They regularly sell for at least 20k.

Personally, I don't think I would. You could buy / do a lot of stuff with a couple thousand, why spend it on something that will just gather dust on your shelf?

Well, it's actually a 'Limited' edition. There's only about 20 copies of it in existence, and they likely all are on eBay now. Some people are obsessive about getting Limited Editions of games. For example, those Gold NES cartridges. People are willing to pay a fortune for them, and it's no different here. Certainly, if I had a PS3, and much more money than necessary, I'd consider throwing some money down for that.

Well, I said 10 because it's more likely someone will be selling one if there's more than one. I'd imagine if I had the only one of something in the world that held some value, I'd hold onto it.
