Dropping Out of High School?

I lot of people tend to drop out of high school. Whether it be from stress, or just stupidity, WHY? Why would you drop out, 1-3 years before graduation, after you worked so hard to get there? You've already spent about 12 years in school, why end it now when you only have a couple years left? Anybody know why people do this? (Preferably someone who actually has)

You know, I always think I should just give up too. I've seriously turned stupid since the 7th grade. I've been trying really hard but I just can't seem to get my grades up. I end up procrastinating or just giving up.

I don't know that many people who drop out of highschool, I mean, even most of the lower tier kids do stay in.

I only know of one guy that dropped out and he works at the McDonald's down the road from the highscool, but maybe I just don't really talk to the kids who drop out.

I get bad grades most of the time, but I would hate to just give up, because then I don't have the chance to prove to myself that I can do better.

No one can even afford to drop out these days, with the recession and most jobs requiring high school diplomas now. A person who drops out of high school is wasting a huge opportunity, and they're pissing on all the work and years they put into school. Cutting high school is just stupid.

I meant stupidiity as in, they were mentally retarded or something, got aweful, aweful grades (All F's) and pretty much had no choice.

My older brother dropped out of school when he was my age (due to him being distracted in classes) and he is now a chief, (i suppose people drop out due to not being able to cope)

i mean i will not drop out no matter what happens but being expelled is always a option

i know a kid who has " dropped out " 4 times. once for each grade of high school, he was waiting for his drug dealing career to take off, but tis not going to. also a lot of kids are joining a union.

The only reasons you'd drop out of highschool:

Reason 1: Your stupid as fuck. (You can get help for this too, so it's not really an excuse. You'll be better off just going through with it and trying your best, you may just make it by the minimum to be Graduated.)

Reason 2: Personal problems in your life are currently affecting you horribly and you can't cope with the problems and school at the same time.(Probally better to get help though for something like that, at least you'll get that diploma that way.)

Reason 3: Your an Underachiever.

Reason 4: Your lazy.

Reason 5: School stress you out too much.

Reason 6: Your thinking of going down the path of a criminal. (Drug dealing, joining a gang, etc.)

Reason 7: Your getting bullied at school and your scared to go anymore, because they've threatened something extremely serious. (This reason is a stupid reason, but understandable, although the wiser choice would be to report the situation to the authorities or someone that can help.)

Those are the only reasons I can think of, and if your reason is 1, 2 or 7 then you should get help for those problems. But the other reasons mean you don't deserve to even live in a country with a decent education rate and your stupid as fuck, and don't appreciate what your being given.

For most people they just don't want to apply themselves. My two best friends in high school (and grade school) didn't even graduate with me. They're not stupid people, either. They've just never had the motivation to do their work (and still don't, really). People eventually get so far behind that instead of catching up they'd just rather quit school.

They did eventually graduate, btw.

I've been thinkin of dropping out. I barely ever have any motivation to do any work. Most the time I just sit there and chat or listen to iPod, while waiting for the recess/lunch bell. I don't know if it's because I'm tired or somethin', but school's just not really working for me :|

I thought about dropping out of high school many, many times.

It was hell for me...it really was. However, I did end up graduating. My grades were a hell of a lot better than they should have been considering how unmotivated and depressed I was (and still am).

Now I'm in college and I'm considering either dropping out or at least taking a lengthy hiatus.

After 16, you can leave, and from what I understand, if you have no interest at all when you're 14, you can go to job training to become a laborer, or a hairdresser or some shit like that.

At least, that's how I understood it when I lived there.

In the US, though, dropping out is basically suicide for any type of decent career. I'm sure there's people that want to work at McDonald's or as a janitor for the rest of their lives, but I don't know people like that.
