I've noticed that even really great guitar players still look at the frets to make sure they get their fingers right sometimes. So with guitar do you have to look at the frets? Or can you, if practiced enough, never have to look at them ever?

With enough practice, it becomes second nature.
there already is a blind guitar player, hes like 10 or something. but you dont have to look at the frets if you dont ahve to shift your hand
Yeah, Jeff Healy was a blind as a bat guitar player.
He died of cancer last year so laughing at how stupid he looks when he rolls his head around playing the guitar will just make you look like a total asshole so don't.
definetly, but it would take a lot of practice

I never look at the frets, because my old teacher taught me not to.
no a blind person has no use of their hands arms or even fingers therefore they are worse off then a brain dead hippo
Yes. Especially if they learned how to play before they became blind. Once you repeat something over and over, you can do it by heart. And for blind people this makes it even easier.
Sure, they can play other instruments. Why not guitar?
IT WOULD TAKE A LOT OF TRIAL AND ERROR, BUT WHEN IT COMES DOWN TO IT, MUSCLE MEMORY WILL LET YOU DO ANYTHING WITHOUT YOU LOOKING. THINK ABOUT GETTING UP IN THE MORNING OUT OF BED. I BET YOU CAN KEEP YOUR EYES CLOSED ALL THE WAY TO THE LIVING ROOM COUCH FROM YOUR BED BECAUSE YOU'VE DONE IT SO MANY TIMES.
YOU KNOW? IT'S A LOT LIKE THAT.
CAPS LOCK DAY FTMFW.

Yes...better than most.
You don't have to be looking at a guitar ALL THE TIME to play one.
If you were really practised, you could. I think if a guitar virtuoso had to playa song without looking at the frets he could, it's just somewhere for the eyes to go.
then why do skilled guitar players still take glances to their frets?
i agree. blind people can play lots of instruments
In the late 1800s, if I remember rightly, blind children were talk to play musical instruments so they could get a job in entertainment.
So yes.
This too will pass.
Memento mori

Because they can. If blind guitar players could see they would probably glance at their frets too, but they can't, so they don't.

only in metal and classical really.
Metal- crazy fret shredding, even if they are amazing theres still a chance they could hit the wrong fret.
Classical- fingerpicking- See video
i can play like the first three measures without looking but after that....

Angel Eyes was a beautiful song.
Please click here. You'd make my fiance` happy... Please?
I'm a voice actor, and I love what I do. I'm also a writer, and love that just as much.
At our school show in 7th grade a dude played run to the hills with the guitar behind his head.
Even when i play sometimes i dont need to look couse its in the fingers, they know themselfes.
A good friend of mine is in a band with a blind guitarist/keyboardist. The blind guy is one of the best musician's I've ever heard.
yeah I think after time its second nature look at ray he played piano blind. I myself have come to the conclusion if you ratice hard enough you can do anything. I can play small licks and whatnot with my eyes closed just because of all the practice I have had.
Ya. I saw a documentary about that. (I was forced to watch it against my will, just so you know)
It was before shine down was popular (if that means anything to you,).
Jose Feliciano is blind...and a badass
I think they can. I guess it can be compared to using a keyboard. I never look at the keyboard when i type
I trained, for the last 6 months or so, to play without looking at the frets. I look at the wall, or my eyes if I can get a mirror, and now I play without looking at the frets. I'm telling you, you're not really using it, it's just a bad habit.
Looking at the frets is only a useful tool for helping learn, but you're really learning how to play by ear, ultimately.
As for why guitarists look down at the frets, usually it's because they're performing and they're playing something outside of their comfort zone. OR, they just want to call attention to the fact that they're soloing and people should be watching their sweet finger work.
