I don't believe that the OP is in the wrong at all. P.S: Minorities and Women and even certain religions have changed their societal roles, but Atheists (at least the ones who post here) don't do much but sit around and talk about how if God was real, he would let them stay up all night and not go to school, or would lower the drinking age and let them smoke, and how life isn't fair. Can anyone think of any Atheist homeless shelters, or how about some Atheist charities? You can argue that religion is as much of a scam as government is, but it has it's place in society.

I brought it up as an example of religious groups doing other things than just being churches and forcing their beliefs. I think churches also provide food for people and run soup kitchens, and I think other groups do those kinds of things now too, but they didn't start until the progressive movements in the early 1900's or so, and everybody whines about "the cost of big government" now, since everybody pays in taxes and such, where before it was just the local community who gave what they could to the church.
