The whole "This is America, if you don't love America then you need to leave"
First of all, there is nothing you can do about it to make them leave.
Secondly, those rights that you like that give you the freedom speach, let others say what they want.
Sure those same rights give the others to say love it or leave it, but as well they give me the same right to say that saying that is pointless and stupid.
And also the whole "If you don't support the president (Mainly said durring when Bush was in office) then you have no right to call yourself an American"
Well if someone doesn't have the right to call themselves an American if they don't support the president, then naturally by saying that they will be fined or locked up or something. But because they can say that without any punishments for doing such, they the have the right. But then again the other person also has the right to...well, be a jackass. And I have a right to say they are full of shit.
And people that support the president blindly are idiots.
"I support anything the president says, no matter what"
Then you hypothetically would support genocide in and out of the country with you being one of the victims. You said it, not me.

Let me add one that I hear often:
"If you don't like EVERYTHING thing about America or if you criticize it AT ALL, you're not an American but a Communist Liberal Leftist Hippie that hates freedom, hates the troops, and wants all Americans dead."

I never knew this being a drama queen was such a big problem to be honest, no point trying to pigeon hole people into this or that. If you don't do this or that then your not this or that. Best to ignore these people until their able to enjoy life :)

It's true. People that are over-patriotic sometimes have no idea what makes their country run. It's especially true in this case. Those who want to criticize what other people say have to realize that ideally, America was built on reasonable freedom of speech. Like George Washington said: "I may not like what my opponent has to say, but I will fight to the death for his right to say it."

The government doesn't bother you? Patriot Act, ever encroaching and increasing taxes, how about the Bacchus Healthcare Bill?
The point of being American IS to question your government and leaders. This country was BUILT by questioning and outright rebelling. If America was all about "do what your leaders say" we'd still be British subjects.

Dude, man, it's 2009. The phrase is now, "If you don't like EVERYTHING about America or if you criticize it AT ALL, you're a racist." Your saying is so 2008.

It could always change to "If you don't like EVERYTHING about OBAMA or if you criticize him AT ALL, you're a racist."

eroding your rights & your Constitution one little piece at a time.
As citizens of your country you all should be out in the streets demanding the repeal of the 'Patriot Act'
There is nothing patriotic about it... it was just a perfect way for Bush & his cronies to completely circumvent your personal rights , after 9/11.
That more Americans were not outraged , shows they just don't care...or really didn't understand what was done to them !

America love it or leave it truly is BS.
How was America formed?
A bunch of colonists were piseed at the way King George was treating them.
They could've left but instead they tried to change it, and eventually they started a violent revolution.
So if anything saying 'bite your tongue and put up with whatever the government is doing' is pure unAmerican Bullshit.

It is pretty much eroded away now; very little of it still actually stands. It had bits of it chipped off since it was first instated, and had continued to until now.
I was definitely furious and scared by it, though I was just a child at the time.

Do people still use that love it or leave it crap? I hadn't heard it in a few years. It was a Mantra of the Right before we invaded Iraq and as people started realizing that they were wrong, stopped using it as much. Or maybe I just stopped hearing it as much.
TC when did you hear it to make you want to create this thread?

I agree with the love it or leave it statement. I mean if you think there is another country thats more awesome then the one your in, no one is saying you have to stay. And if you like it better over there thats cool, but I love it here.
As for the if you dont support your president shit, I think that is partly bullshit. You dont have to support your president to stand behind him. I mean I dont like obama by any means but I will defend him when compared to other leaders. Thats what you should do I think. You cant change whats happened so go with it.

I think you grossly misunderstand the statement. It isn't a demand or request, it is a suggestion and a reminder of your freedoms. If you really don't like it you are free to leave at any time. Believe it or not, people in some countries don't even have THAT right.

The statement says "Love it or leave it"
Gives you two options. To love America or to leave America.
To fit your deffinition of the statement it would say "You can love or hate it, and you can stay or leave it"
Love it or leave it pretty much says "Love America or get the fuck out"
I don't love this country, I don't have pride for this country. I am happy to live in this country because it is easy to get entertainment and products from this country without the need to speak japanese.
The freedoms I will have no matter what I think of them.
I can dislike America and still get the benifits from it. Some gun toting rednecks might disagree, but they are not around here so screw them.
If someone told me to love america or leave it, I would tell them to make me. They would walk away a failier.

Sure thing! Japan is focused on video games and Anime, while Russia IS much more violent but since Martial Law is declared by Obama it would much more safe to move anywhere else! You speak english,so you can move to the UK or India,if you haven't thought about that =O And besides, its not difficult to learn another language, and while you learn it everyone can understand your english since its number1 language in the world! Just don't try to learn Japanes or Arabic i.e. >.> that's WAAAY too difficult!! :) Russia has a VERY strong national pride and you will see that they see each other as brothers :) Almost no other country is more pride than Russia! And for the Russia haters: say what you desire! You weren't in Russia so your rant can ONLY be meaningless because it's not filled with whole-heartism!

What kind of slogan is that? Who is going to say all of that bullshit? Too much. "Love it or leave it" is simple and rolls off the tongue. Perhaps the use of the word "love" is confusing you. Your translation to "Love it or get the fuck out" tells me this. Saying something like "please leave" is not akin to "get the fuck out," and "leave it" can just as easily be interpreted as "you are free to leave it if you like" and so on.
But look at the word "love" for a moment. Even by its most common and strict definition, "a feeling of great compassion between individuals," we recognize that it's possible to love someone or something and still dislike certain things about them. For example, you may love your dad because you are his son but hate him because he is an alcoholic. Similarly, you hate the things that the US does politically and socially yet you appreciate the freedoms that you can take advantage of because you are here that wouldn't be possible anywhere else. This country was BUILT on the idea that the government is not to be trusted, so it's perfectly reasonable to like your home but dislike your politicians. That's the whole reason we vote. Sure, there are things that suck about America, but it's not as bad as somewhere like Cuba, we have the power to make it better if we try and, if nothing else, at least we (most of us) aren't sheltering ourselves with scraps of trash and eating garbage.
You can do anything here if you work a little bit for it. Isn't that something to appreciate? I'm by no means a patriot but I recognize that we all have great opportunities solely because we live here and, unfortunately, most of us allow it to go to waste because for some reason we can't appreciate it.

You're taking the quote way out of context there.
First of all, there is nothing you can do about it to make them leave.
Who said about forcing people to leave? I think it's more of an opinion, that you should leave, not that we'll make you leave.
Secondly, those rights that you like that give you the freedom speach, let others say what they want.
Since America is not forcing anti-Americans out, that statement is without relevance to reality.
Sure those same rights give the others to say love it or leave it, but as well they give me the same right to say that saying that is pointless and stupid.
I don't see your point.
And also the whole "If you don't support the president (Mainly said durring when Bush was in office) then you have no right to call yourself an American"
Now you're taking the quote out of context. Loving America does not necessarily mean that you love or support the President. I don't like Obama that much, but I have a deep love for my country.
You don't have any factual basis for this. Have you ever been to Capitol Hill and the White House? There are people out there daily outside the White House lawn, protesting. Provided that they're peaceful protestors, they're not arrested.
And people that support the president blindly are idiots.
"I support anything the president says, no matter what"
Then you hypothetically would support genocide in and out of the country with you being one of the victims. You said it, not me.
Find someone who says that. I dare you.
