3.93 / 5.00 4,634 ViewsOk lets go back when the games where just a joystick and a button in the atari, then the controllers started to evolve with the NES with two buttons and 1 joypad, then the snes came with 6 buttons:
A B X Y R L, and the Geneis with 3 buttons a 1 joypad, then we go 64 bit with the n64 going with 4c buttons, A and B, joystick and joypad,R and L, and the playstation overpassed it with 2R buttons, 2L buttons, triangle, circle, square, and X, 2 joysticks and 1 joypad, after that all have been almost the same controllers exept for the wii and the Xbox changed a little bit the Playstation controller with black and white buttons and aonly 1 R and L buttons. For some old gamers(like my uncle) is hard to play some games with more than 2 buttons.I know the games from now need more buttons to work and be easier(some..), i just wanna tell about the evolution of the controllers.
By the way can someone tell me if there was a competitor for the NES?

SEGA Master System & the Atari 65XE.

Dildos aren't controllers you silly little fuck.
And the Atari 5200 rivaled the NES

Of course, the games are getting more complex thus the controllers must be or they will not be able to expand so they would lose much profit
Console developers are always trying new controllers because there's simply no such thing as the perfect design, otherwise all controllers would be the same.
One example is some games are better on Wii than other systems because the controls are suited to that game, or the game is suited to the controls. The same goes for PS3 where there are controls not possible on other systems and 360, well, those controls are possible on PS3 and easily translated so it's really at the back of the line as far as innovation is concerned, even with Natal as the PS Eye has an equivalent in development that includes props, something a lot of people preferred over the Natal demonstration where your hands are empty because it felt more natural.
Complex controllers do not necessarily mean difficult to use, and the Wii mote is a good example of this.

I completely agree. Playing C&C on the Xbox 360 was retarded since the controller was not made for the game.

They are now making new types of controllers with less buttons but complex technology, as well as the wii and proyect natal for Xbox 360(by the way i think it will be failure, because I think it will have alot of bugs and glitches and will be compatible with some games only)

I have no idea what you just said, but the PS3 controllers suck ass, they are all clunky and fucking retarded, and hard to use. At least, they didn't go with the gayass design from before.
REMEMBER THA JAGUAR!!! TOO MANY EFFING BUTTONS ON THAT DAMN THING!!!!

Isn't Project Natal just a webcam on top of a 360 with a Wii Fit board?

The Genesis was around during the end of the NES era, while the SNES was just emerging.
I think we wont see controllers with very many more than we currently have. Two thumb-sticks, a d-pad, four face buttons, and four shoulder buttons have most games more than covered. It's been this way since the end of the PSX's lifespan, and anything that's lasted 3 generations is most likely here to stay.
Not counting select / start / home

The Sega Master System was the main competitor for NES. It took me through those years quite well.

lol, it would be super easy to misuse a button with just a slip of a finger.

The Xbox 360 controller is the best controller ever made, it fits nice with the hands. The ps3's controller is too goofy and doesn't mold to your hands. I think they should keep everything the 360 controller has PLUS a black and white button like the original xbox, placed somewhere on the controller. (possibly as a "turn flashlight on/off" button and stuff like that)
I twittered that I made a facebook and digged it on myspace and gaia online then on my iphone app.
