animated sigs? no more?

I remember everyone on newgrounds used to have animated sigs and shit but now no one has them and ng doesn't accept them. Why? did someone have a seizure. Static sigs suck I wanna have mine animated.

I feel like I've stepped back in time.

It's very very unlikely that animated sigs will ever return, as much as the majority of users may want them back, so just get used to it, we all have.

I remember their was some site that you could upload a animated sig to and and it would turn it into a jpg but its still animated, he tricked ng's lol. anyways. I miss that one sig with wade dancing infront of the NG bus. Anyone got it?

There were a lot of ad sigs and distracting sigs along with the occasional seizure animation. There were also a lot of crappy ones that made the site look like shit. I can't say I'm glad they're gone, but I don't miss them either.

Some were quite funny, others... not so much. Things seem a lot calmer not when scrolling through a thread without all the constant movement.

True, there was probably still a limit to the size, and most browsers save the images in their memory.

So 8 years ago animated sigs had a larger file size than they do now? Because that seems to be what you're implying, since whatever the case, an animated GIF is going to be larger than a JPEG.

Either way it doesn't really matter, since if the size limit is still 40kB, there's not going to be a huge amount of animation anyone will be able to do without it looking shit. And it will probably look shit even with only 2 frames of animation, in terms of colour quality.

LOLLLLLL, what I was saying was that 8 years ago the internet was way slower than it is today for most people and back then it took the page longer to load not because of gifs had a bigger file size then, but because the internet was so much slower back then.

This doesn't change the fact that a larger file size will increase the overall time that a page takes to load, regardless of the user's internet speed.

I hardly ever used animated sigs anyway. Most of the time they were obnoxious. There WERE some good ones out there, and they were quite amusing for signature fads and whatnot, but overall I think the BBS is better off without them.

I lost all hope that they'd return a long time ago. I feel that my sig worked a lot better when it was animated, but I can see that the animated system was easy to exploit and make annoying sigs.

They showed with the redesign that they were trying to make the sigs less obnoxious, making them less tall and not animated.

I still miss mine though.

Animated sigs have not been allowed here since the redesign in July 2007.

The sig I have now is a slightly modified version of my original sig--the only difference is that my original sig was less wide and also animated.

Hmm, well it seems that animated sigs could not only get annoying but also other things such as page loading times. Sure some of them look kinda cool but I am just as happy with my sig. It doesn't need to sparkle or change text to look cool. Sigs are fine the way they are.

The redesign sucked in general. a few new levels and a slightly prettier layout does not give Tom the excuse to kill our sigs. In fact, I liked the layout and levels of the old design better....

However, I want to keep these little emoticons though.... The only good part about the redesign.

No offense taken, because it truly does look a hell of a lot better in its original, animated form. That was the first sig I've ever had on here (I spent almost a full year with no sig pic at all, just text) and one that I continue to remain attached to today.

No. GIFs of 16 colours or less have a smaller size than JPEGs in almost any case, unless you're using hundreds of frames. Put simple GIF size increases with the gradient whereas JPEG size increases with detail and sharpness. That is looking away from the proportions of the actual pictures themselves, of course.
