Considering that all movies start out as books (or manuscripts), I would say just about all of them. But if you mean the movies that were based on actual books, like Harry Potter, then I would say that there are very few movies, if any, that surpass the book. Books DO give a lot more detail than the movie. Besides, its fun to try and imagine what a piece of scenery looks like. That's the joy of reading books: you can make it look like you want it to.
But movies do come in handy for things you are confused about in a book. The movie can also enhance the story. Like rock operas that were made into movies, like The Wall. It just really depends on the type of book and the type of movie that is made.
