Well, l recently got FRAPS, and it works just fine, but when l record a video at my screen's resolution (which is pretty much HD video quality) the resulting video is MASSIVE...one minute is 1,3 GB!
As you can understand this isn't going to work out, so l need you to tell me a good program that can change the video's format and compress it...
But before you answer, l want you to know that l tried VirtualDub, which in theory can compress videos, but not only it takes FOREVER, but also the resulting video's quality is unacceptable....
I want the videos to be like normal quality movies, which means 700 MB-1 GB for 90-120 minutes at a good video quality (can be watched in fullscreen without being super pixely).
I know it can be done, l just want to know how.
Thanks in advance.

Cant be done now. What with video games getting more and more advanced, its going to take more space to store the info.

Its time to play games and jerk off. And Im all out of quarters.

Well, then how do they compress movies of decent quality with them taking only 700-800 MB?

Compress to DiVX or XViD. Its the best, doesn't leave your video super pixelated, and retains a small file size.

DiVX

XViD

Compression. Duh. I thought you were asking about why they didnt record for that length for this ammount of space. Cause later on you bitch about your compression software so it sounds like you were asking for it to record for that ammount of space.

If your really worried about space, record, post it, delete from computer and start all over again

Uhm, l think that you're getting a bit confused here...the compression software l have works, the resulting file IS smaller, but the quality sucks...

Uh...what?

Anyway, Eclipse, thanks a lot..if l get DivX then the DivX codec will appear on my compression software and l'll be able to create DivX videos.Yay!

DivX doesn't help, it says that the file type is not supported...l can't convert it to DivX :(

Yes, it's normal. Usually files are huge. Back when I did PVP videos in WoW I used to accidently fill my Hard Drive and get stupid errors all the time.

You just need a beast of a machine to do Video Editing usually.

If you're using a good video editing software (example: Sony Vegas) the compression will do itself when you export your film.

Hmm, works with Xvid, the quality is good, file size is small, but when l upload it to youtube (for testing purposes) the quality is utter crap..how come?

There's always Xfire... you can record videos, and it compresses the source video to a decent quality and file size afterwards. Plus screenshots and everything else you can upload onto your profile there. If you want, take a look at a couple of my videos for quality comparisons.

If you are really desperate, put it through Windows Movie Maker.

It will compress, but you may or may not like the results.

How to Configure: FRAPS.

The video has a few tips on how to water down quality, but not remarkably. Video recording and editing usually needs a fairly beast computer to handle whatever you doing. Again, it can depend down on resolution / what game you're recording.
