I was reading on MSN and it showed a article that said uniforms should be allowed into schools because it helps kids fit in socially and would help boost up grades. What do you think? should students be forced to put on uniforms for school?

I doubt wearing an ugly uniform would help anyone... you should be able to freely express yourself any way you want to. I do fine in the clothes i wear! :P

school uniforms wuill make people conform.... it will cancel the rep of being poor,,, people being to prepy.... and girls from wearing something too revealing... it is a good thing in throry and a good thing to do in treal life but it sucks for the students.... and when a student breaks a rule... they can simply move to the other side of a kid and immediatly they are not going to be suspect.... a teacher will not be able to tell the students apart from afar... and that will boost the little bits of crim that a school will have...

When the kids grow up, they'll be forced into wearing work uniforms and adhering to other conforming regulations. Don't put them in uniforms.

I don't really see how people wearing a uniform can help them get better grades. Does a person's clothes now effect how they think and learn?

It doesn't help any thing really. I mean I have them at my school and things have gotten worse since then. The grades have not shown any major improvement, so their basically the same. Also, the fights in school have gotten greater because of them. Weird.

Anyway, school uniforms are kind of multi-sided. It could make people conform even more than they already do, but then again, if they are issued out, poorer people could get clothes, so they dont have to buy more clothing. But then again, no fucker at my school is poor. And still they bitch about how their parents didn't get them their 500$ ipod or something, and settled for the 300$ one.

Poozy RAGE. Also, This.

Well my school has uniforms, actually my whole county has uniforms. They suck utter balls. They don't help worth shit if anything they hinder us. We cannot express ourselves with the way we dress so we have to find other ways to do it. Some of these may include: drinking, smoking, having sex, and breaking the law. So I figure if my school didn't have them life would be easier.

It doesn't matter if there's a "social uniform" to put people on the same level or not. Precocious teenagers will still have a popularity scale, form cliques, and treat each other like crap for no legitimate reason. You may as well let kids wear what keeps them comfortable in their own skin.

Uniforms don't do anything, positive or negative. They don't help or hinder people from being who they are, and they certainly make no difference in grades. There is no reason to, or to not, implement them into all schools.
Which is why the ones with uniforms are better off staying with them, and those without are better without. Don't change anything.

I just want all the girls to be wearing tight shirts and short skirts.
School would then be worth it.

I'm always against conformity. I personally wear a uniform at work, but that's because I'm a cashier, clients have to know I work there.

In school you're not dealing with clients so I don't see why you should wear a uniform.

Same thing in offices, I don't see why people can't just wear t-shirts and jeans.

Uniforms do not really make a difference if you ask me. Fitting in socially is not about clothes, it is about your character. They do not change your study habits either, you wear clothes and that's just about that.

I had to wear school uniforms at three different schools for twelve years, so take it from me when I say that school uniforms are a complete waste of time and money.

They do absolutely nothing for the benefit of the student.
They are impractical; wearing a shirt, tie and jumper in summer makes it too hot to concentrate on anything.
All students hate uniforms, and being forced to wear them only makes them grow up to resent the whole concept of them.
Being snidely told by some underworked overpaid teacher to tuck your shirt in, straighten your tie, do this, do that, only leads students to detest authority even more.
There are always the kids who come from low-income homes who have to go for the cheaper alternatives for uniforms, like jumpers that look similair enough but don't bear the school logo, for example. This attempt to make them look as much like the other kids as possible only draws more attention to the fact that they couldn't afford the expensive official school uniform. It's not rocket science, these kids don't have a good time at school socially.

School uniforms are bourgeois crap.

I don't know about you people where you live, but down it florida it's simply a collared polo shirt with the school symbol patch slapped on it. You sound like you guys are going to a preppy or weird school.

It's great for us having uniforms. I don't ever have to worry what I will wear to school, and everyones uniform is according to their academy, so it's all cool, its not just one bland color. We have every color except brown. It's really good. Only downside is if you don't wear your uniform you get sent to CSI (detention), but I don't wear mines half the time, and it's all good. Throw on a sweater and I do fine.

No strict tie and shirt or skirts or khaki's or emblems. Just that polo shirt.

I can see why they would be useful in some schools, not so much in others. In locations were there is violence over it, uniforms now. Other places that are more tranquil, let them wear what they please. I don't really care, I go to school in jeans and tshirt without thinking :-P. Whatever.

Uniforms fucking suck. I'm not sure, but in Australia nearly every school makes you wear uniforms. It wouldn't be that bad except if you wear one bit of wrong clothing, like different shoes, having a hoody on, etc, and the teachers be absolute dicks about it and give you detentions and rant and shit like that. All it does is piss people off.

I remember in my second Elementary school they had a policy that was uniform/non-uniform. Pretty much if you wanted you could either wear uniforms or not.

Of course I didn't. My mom did interpret it wrong and bought me some uniform bullshit that I only wore once.

I always favor the opinion that it's taking freedom and individuality away.

If I were tied up, would you ring my bell?

Yes you should be made to wear uniforms.

Here in the UK we all do during our school years. When it comes to college of course we can wear whatever we want to, but there is nothing wrong with uniforms. Makes the school look nicer too, more organised.

I want school uniforms, as long as they are comfortable, I hate deciding what to wear in the morning.

I had only to wish that there be a large crowd of spectators the day of my execution and that they would greet me with cries of hate.

Yep, sounds bout right from what I have experienced. They are pointless as hell, the teachers go crazy at you if a shirt is untucked, top button undone or tie isn't done correctly. Uniforms are basically a way for teachers to hand put detentions in which no one lears from.
