No you don''y maake the rules. No-one in particular makes the rules. The rules are what everyone agree on collectively. Sometimes they codify them as laws or religious texts.

Anyone with any empathy for their fellow people knows well enough not to do to other what they wouldn't want to have done to them (this golden rule is found in every major religious text, and most philosophical worldviews are based on it as well).

The Bible is an old book that goes by laws and cicumstances that were OK then. It is obviously going to be more bloody then any other two shoes books saying to share and be nice.

Christians and Atheists alike should realize this book was not for the modern world to follow.

what the hell are you talking about...aithiests know more about the bible than christians? where do you get your facts from? You say the bible has "nothing good in it"? Although I am Christian, I disagree with some of the things they say and do. Why is that they teach Christianty/Catholism in schools but not Bhudism or other religions. The fact they are force feading us how to live our lives under their god is ridiculous. Most of the things the people of the catholic church say is bullshit. They say the pope 'stands out' more than other people, although the bilbe states that God sees us all equally.

Also the main reason people think the bible is full of bullcrap is because they only read it, they don't fully think about what that passage actually means.

Great moral values to be found in the Bible I think. But then pretty much every "holy book" codifies the basic laws one should live by. Definitely not to be taken literally, though. This is coming from an agnostic, just fyi.

Most Atheist's are just ignorant teenagers being sheep because it is some form of rebellion. Most of them barely grasp the concept of Science, so why bother teaching them morality? When they mature they will become open minded. Until then just let them carry on insulting those who think differently from them.

Simply put.
Religion should be so; religious. It SHOULD NOT dictate policies in government and ethics and whatever else.
Sure, if people want to stop their policies / research / experiments due to their guilty christian consciences, fine, let them.
But honestly. Just imagine how much further we'd be technologically if the Church just stopped fucking around?

Its the only real reason why I hate America. Religion. Everywhere. Even on the money! For fucks sake, Religion should not be the defining guide to an entire country.

because most of this was started in america probably because people cant think there. A religion really is only how to be a better person and be kind to others but of course some people think its a way of life that people must do it. Im not hating on athiests or christians or any other religion. But idiots (or the major population of america) cant seem to understand this both on the athiest and religous side and thats why there is a lot of converting assholes over there.

Anyway I dont care, I believe in god but I dont go to church and only pray when in despressing times.

The Bible has 73 books, including the Apocrypha. Some of which were written hundreds of years between each other.

The Bible isn't full of lies, or contradictions. It's full of stories, metaphors and fables that happen to contain contradictions. But that's to be expected, seeing as how it had a bunch of different people writing the books that make it up.

Have you ever read the bible? Very few of it consists of anything you should live your life by. Many parts of the bible support slavery, genocide, infanticide etc.

Appeal to age is a logical fallacy.

Most atheists become so in their teens. Teens tend to rebel, ergo, Atheism is teenage rebellion. Sure, there's a connection in that part of the usual rebellion is to question the values around you, but that doesn't mean their new views aren't genuine.

Also, in most parts of the world, the religious still dominate the scene, and atheism is considered someting of an anomaly. And the whole rethoric of "sheep" and "being open minded" etc. is just silly. Christianity, in the western society (where I assume most here are) is still the majority, and bible basically advocates groupthought (hell, it refers to followers as sheep. Literally).

I tried reading the Bible once. It was insanely boring, and there were parts in it that were just totally useless.

For the love of god, dumbasses like the OP need to stop posting religious threads, it only makes the entire Christian community look bad.
