You are now aware that this is a stupid sig.
My absolute favorite sad song would be Lazarus by Porcupine Tree. It's extremely mellow, but the piano melody is very touching and depressing. The harmonies and laid back, beautiful drums really bring a tear to my eye. It's elegantly written and exuberantly performed. It always gets me down.

I hope you die in a fire, lol. Do you not like that song?
I really like "How to Disappear Completely" by Radiohead. From what I interpret from the lyrics, it's about life after death or it's a metaphor for isolation. The song's depressing, but made with heart.
Clearly Cuboy is the Greatest by Cuboy. Haha, reference.

3/4s of Radiohead's material is depressing. Fake Plastic Trees. Creep. High and Dry. All I Need. I can't think of a happy Radiohead song.
Nobody needs to post anymore, my experiment has proved my hypothesis.
Hint, it's the only song mentioned twice by two different people.
"Let It Be", "A Day in the Life", "The Long and Winding Road" by The Beatles, "My Way" (a Frank Sinatra song, I think), and "Make You Feel My Love" by Bob Dylan all make me want to cry.
Sweet Child of Mine - Gun N Roses

Smile was a much better sad song of his - I really suffered when I watched Jermaine sing that at his memorial.
That and "I just can't Stop Lovin' You". My iPod has a sense of timing and as a result, on the day after he died, I was driving home from my girlfriends and I had to pull over, as I tried to sing the song and just burst into tears.
Seriously, this man had such an effect on my life, growing up with his music as a big part of the soundtrack of my life.
Shit, I forgot "Bridge Over Troubled Water" by Simon and Garfunkel and for some odd reason, "Wild Horses" by the Rolling Stones.
I don't know why..

Mad World? Haha I was going to say that song until I saw it had already been posted.
Although I've made a point of not listening to sad songs when I feel sad because it usually just helps me to keep feeling sorry for myself. Now when I feel down I think of what my dad would say (he was the Drill Sergent type) and keep on keepin' on.
