I just got back from my "religion class" recently, where my teacher blatantly lied and said that there is more proof of Jesus Christ, than of George Washington. But why? Isn't that just fucking retarded?

They have nothing to lose. Followers of that religion will follow it regardless of what ridiculous claims their teachers make, and if these teachers only limited themselves to saying truthful, reasonable things, they wouldn't have anything to say. So basically they just throw crazy remarks out there in the hope that someone will take an interest.

My English teacher once explained religion in a way I like.
He said that like anything else, religion is a product, and whether the pastors/ priest/ whatever, know it or not, they are selling religion, which is why they target young, impressionable teens

While what you're teacher said might not necessarily be a lie, even if it may not seem to make much sense, most people do not realize the ignorance in what they say. It is the nature of ignorance itself.

Personally, I think of them as facts, but the majority of users on this site will not. They will just call them parables or stories.

Where in America are you? The only states I know that would allow such stupidity are Texas, Arkansas, Alabama, and Tennessee.
If it's a private school, then you're screwed, regardless what state you live in.

Why do people deny Jesus was real... He WAS real, and there IS more proof of him than of George Washington, however, there is no proof that Jesus was God or God's son or a messiah, or whatever.

Not really. There are no artifacts or anything like that which came from Jesus. All claims about Jesus were written well after his alleged death and derived from hearsay anyway. He may as well have never existed.
