OP grow up. Mario is part of my childhood dating all the way back o when I was four and I still voted for Gordon. I'm still a Mario fan and his games are fun, but Gordon Freeman is a better character in my opinion.

why is everyone saying "Gordon is an emotionless person"? they did that for a reason. YOU are supposed to react, it puts you in his shoes. the game captures the player so that you are feeling the emotions he feels, he has no need to say anything, as you already do.

Mario made video gaming, Gordon Freeman was in a popular game. It's just that people want to look 'hardcore' and think mario is childish. Of course, there are some people who genuinely think he was more important.

Holy fucking christ. Do people not realize that it's just a fucking poll and other than that it's about the CHARACTERS and not what the fucking franchises that starred them did? Also yes there were games before Mario but before Mario there were little to no games that actually had an end to them, and no actual platformers. Also Mario was probably the longest most epic game to come out at that time.

Gordon Freeman defeats Mario in every aspect. He's more intelligent, having graduated from MIT and having an acute knowledge of science, he's more badass, busting open zombie heads with a crowbar, blowing up Combine ships, and everything in between, he's better dressed and his character looks cooler. You can't deny that sexy 5 o' clock shadow and thick rimmed glasses combo. He fucking travels through universes, and the G-Man is 10x better than Bowser.

Mario has got to be one of the oldest (if not the oldest) popular video game characters of all time, HOW THE HELL CAN HE GET BEATEN BY SOME FAG PHYSICIST WITH A CROWBAR?...

WELL, according to the Mario supporters in this thread, "Mario can shoot FUCKING FIREBALLS OUT OF HIS HANDS". Frankly, Mario would probbaly lose in a fight against Kratos. Unfortunately, the Gamespot competition was just a popularity contest.

Funny thing is that because Freeman won, they are offering all Half-Life stuff on Steam with a 55.8 (% of votes received by Freeman) discount.
