This happened to me, wondering what you all think about it, or what you all would have done.

So I went by a fast food restaurant after school today, they were pretty busy, they got my order all confused and I wasn't sure what to expect when I actually picked up my food but i had my money ready regardless.

When I pull up a wait for awhile, the girl is obviously flustered as I watch her spill my drink as she fills it up, but eventually she hands me the drink and my food, I look down to see if I got everything and as I look back up, she closes the window and walks away.

I hadn't payed and she was already on other things, I had the money in my hand, ready to pay.

Should I have waited till she came back and payed? Should i have pulled over and walked inside to pay? Or should I have just drove away, happy I got a free meal?

I ended up just driving away.

I had only to wish that there be a large crowd of spectators the day of my execution and that they would greet me with cries of hate.

Like 80% would have done.

If no one saw you it really doesn't matter or is entirely up to you.

They aren't going out of business because of that.

Trust me I work in a restaraunt and half of the food gets cooked for free to feed our cruel masters anyway.

That girl is going to get fired. The business isn't going to be permanently affected but yeah she will get fired or punished. There's the consequence of you're actions and I think it's entirely reasonable since you were ready and she was not paying attention but if you believe in second chances then you did something wrong.

No big deal, really. Losses up to 5-10 dollars out of an employees till are usually chocked up to small errors and aren't considered important. However, larger amounts typically are subtracted from employee's paycheck to keep employees from being irresponsible with their till. You very well could have forced her to pay for your meal.

Anyway, that situation wouldn't even present itself to me. I always have my money ready by the time I've pulled up to the window and typically my first move is to hand it to the cashier.

Yeah, but I mean, the whole "Your true character comes out when nobody is looking." thing comes to mind, I always thought I would, in that situation, pay for it, and if I wouldn't do it for a hamburger, I doubt I'd do it for anything of greater value.

But I guess just as they accidentally forgotten to take my money, plenty of times they have accidentally forgotten to give me the larger fries.

Eh.

I had only to wish that there be a large crowd of spectators the day of my execution and that they would greet me with cries of hate.

I can't say you did the wrong thing. Partially, it's the girls fault, by being too distracted.

Honestly, I'd have waited and paid the meal.

doesnt really matter. if you had waited you would have held up the line, and then she would mess up even more.

I feel like you did ok - you tried your hardest to do the right thing, but the opportunity to do so just didn't present itself. All you could have done would be to park your car, walk into the restaurant and actually hand your money to the girl.

That would probably get her into MORE trouble, since the manager would know that it was her specifically who screwed up. If the receipts don't equal the money in the till at the end of the day, a variety of cashiers may have been responsible, but by walking into the restaurant and explaining what happened, your revealing this one girl as the culprit.

You probably saved both yourself and this girl a lot of aggravation. The only party that was hurt was the corporation, and they can stand to lose $7.

you should have just gone back in. if a register is short at the end of the day someone usually gets in trouble.. they have to take it serious or employees could just pocket 5-10 dollars here or there and get away with it.

If you had a shred of manly honor you'd pay, not because of damage caused (because what's $10 from McDonald's?) but just because of principle. After all, as flustered as she seemed she didn't need the problem of later remembering "Oh, I forgot to take his money!" or even worse the nagging uncertainty of whether she did or didn't, and even if she was certain to neither remember nor question your payment it's still best to pay for it if that's what is expected.

It's not even something to debate about. The company isn't going under because one of their employee's forgot to take your $10 bill. I mean honestly, you'd be an idiot to go back in and pay for your food, and I doubt anyone would have noticed or cared that you forgot.

Move on.

OP I used to work at McDonald's. Don't worry, she'll get a slap on the wrist. No big deal.

Enjoy being on the bad side for once.
