Well according to gamespot currently, it is Gordon Freeman over Mario. Mario definitely is more famous in his genre (platforming), than Gordon Freeman. I think more people know Master Chief than Freeman, because little 9-year-olds are playing halo. But in my opinion...

Best Hero: Gordon Freeman -- I gotta go with gamespot on this one. He has the best weapon ever (Gravity Gun), and can kick ass without uttering a single word, unlike Mario who has to keep saying "Its-a-me!".

Best Sidekick: Diddy Kong -- Because a monkey with a jetpack is f***in awesome

Best Villan: Ganon(dorf) and Bowser -- They win, because they are reoccurring. If you kidnap/try to kill the same person countless times, then you are obviously dedicated to villainy.

Ya know, I'm getting REALLY sick of people replying about gamespot. I asked who YOU thought was the greatest hero. If I cared about what GAMESTOP had to say, I would have said "Hey, who is the best video game hero according to gamespot?" But I didn't so, STOP TALKING ABOUT GAMESPOT!!!

Hero-Sam Fisher because stealth and gadgets are just awsome. still wondering who will win solid snake vs sam fisher.
Villian-Krauser from Resident evil 4 because when hes just firing bullets hes awsome, but when he is damaged he has a HUGE MUTANT BLADE come out of his arm.
sidekick-hmm havent got much for sidekick but it would have to be that chick from alone in the dark. alone in the dark is scary but stupid when it comes to the lady not shutting up, a walk down a road then she starts gabbering on about some thing not relevant

Master chief doesn't deserve a spot. In the end, he's only an army commander with super-cool armour. Dr. Freeman had super-cool armour, but is super-fucking smart.

Well, the number one hero would have to be someone who's put in a premise where it has to be total bad-assery, insane ass-kicking skills and at the end, are left with the highest prize and knew it was all worth it.
