In Florida, four 15-year-olds and one 13-year-old grabbed a teen, doused him with rubbing alcohol, and set him on fire. Why would they do such a horrible thing? The day before, he tried to prevent the theft of his fathers bike.

Am I the only one that thinks those kids should all be tried as adults? If they can do brutal violence like THIS at such a young age, God help America if they're on the streets 5-6 years from now.

At 15, I knew who I was and what I wanted to do. Hell, at 11 I did. I think the 15 year olds should all be tried as adults. The 13 year old was probably just there to try and be cool and fit. But he should be in as much trouble as the other.

They should be tried as adults. This was obviously premeditated and they worked it out and accomplished it. They obviously don't see anything wrong in stealing or setting people on fire.

Did the one teen survive? The one set on fire.

If I were tied up, would you ring my bell?

Yes. But his wounds were EXTREMELY serious. He'll be in the hospital for FIVE MONTHS more at least.

Click the article. Says he will be, but it says he will need 5 months of recovery?

Why can't they make kicking someone's teeth out a criminal sentence?
It would have to be followed by prison, of course.

My computer's breaking down, so nope.

What the fuck? Am I the only one who seen the part that said they serve 21 days in a detention center?
Fucking scum bags? After getting out of the hospital that kid should kill those kids, literally.

93% of kids these days listen to rap, put this in your signature if you like bagels.

The punishment should fit the crime.

Welcome to the real world. I have no clue how they only got 21 days. It seems ridiculous. They tried to steal a bike. Came back later and set him on fire. They should have got more than 21 days. But, the next time they do something like this, they'll get more. Hopefully they don't kill someone.

The harsher our youth's crimes are, the more lenient the justice system is on them.

Rubbing alcohol has too low of a burning temperature to light someone on fire. It's used a lot to simulate someone on fire for film for this reason.

Do your research.

Read the article idiot. They tried to steal his father's bike and then the next day they lit him on fire. They weren't lighting a bike theif on fire. I'm sure if the alcohol burned long enough it would do some major damage.

I believe the article meant that they were being held in juvy pending an official conviction and sentencing, and had been in there for 21 days so far.

Speaking of "Reading is hard", after rereading the article, they're referring to one kid who was simply standing around when it happened, and two kids who "assisted minimally". The kid who actually flicked the lighter is being charged with attempted homicide, and they didn't say about the other guy.

I think that kind of punishment is pushing it. An eye for an eye makes the world go blind. If you set somebody on fire because they did it to you, then you're just as bad as them.

This is why we have the justice systems. They get a fair trial in a court of law. Hopefully they're penalized VERY severely, but if we did what you're suggesting, we'd end up just degrading into a uncivilized, uncontrolled society.

The bright side is they were able to catch the attackers. I was jumped last year and my attackers were never caught and it has always bugged me.

What is the maximum sentence they can get as minors?

I can't tell you that, but I assume it's very low. Minors rarely serve more than a few years. I don't think that's the way it should be with violent crimes though.

Only "aggravated battery"? more 1st degree attempted murder.

They poured a flammable substance all over him and light him on fire, that isn't beating someone up, that's trying to kill them. They had it planned and everything buy bringing a lighter and rubbing alcohol with them.

I twittered that I made a facebook and digged it on myspace and gaia online then on my iphone app.

The five were not charged as adults but Leljedal said the sheriff's office typically releases the names of anyone charged with a felony, regardless of age.

Wow really? Aren't there laws prohibiting the release of names of minors?

Someone may have said this before but im too lazy to read the whole thread. Here in Australia, a mentally disabled man was set on fire by a bunch of teenagers. The reason? because they were bored? what? you are THAT desperate for entertainment that you have to set someone on fire? they should be shot to stop them reproducing and fathering equally stupid kids.
