I stopped by the playground with my son today and we took a short walk through the woods to look for a Geocache. Along the way I noticed something I've never seen before. Some kind of strange little bug on a leaf. It's getting colder out and there aren't many bugs around anymore. So check this thing out, it's very small, about the size of a lady bug. Can anyone figure out what it is? If you can, provide a link.

That's a really really cool bug, but unfortunately i've never seen anything like it. It's a bit like a horseshoe crab on the underside.

Maybe some sort of angry slug has tried to attack a small green leaf? I really don't know what that is but I do think you should find more and start breeding them larger and larger.

Mindchamber suggested some kind of slug, so a search using slug resulted in pay dirt!

An alien bug? Sounds far-fetched.

On the other hand, to be on the safe side, try to make contact with it on behalf of all humanity using colorful lights and tonal sequences.

And for the love of god, don't squish it.

That's definitely it. I don't think I've ever seen one of those caterpillars before, and if I had, I'm sure I'd remember. It looks so translucent and squishy, but I hope you didn't squish it.

God fucking damn it...

He's 4 1/2, so no, but he is normally attending a pre-k school at a daycare. He's home today because my wife took the day off and kept him home.

I try. Here is a pic I took of the Geocache we found. The container is hidden under that stump:

That is one of the more interesting bugs I have seen. I bet they are almost impossible to see in the summer when the leaves are still green.

I've never tried "Geocaching," but it seems like it would be fun to do if I were bored. Maybe it would be an alternative to the BBS.

How does it feed? And what great camouflage it has, until winter comes.

Yeah, it would be hard to spot when the leaves are green. I read one thing it eats is oak leaves. There were a lot of oak trees in that area, acorns everywhere.
