Wtf JK Rowlings? its a kidsbook!
have you noticed this?
No, because I don't read kids' books.
Harry Potter books are for anyone to read, specifically teenagers and primary school kids, but many adults and people in university also read them, they're a lot different to any shitty children's book I've ever read in my life.
If they weren't around when you were in school or university then it is understandable though.
And an important thing to note is that it actually got people reading again, adults and child alike. Before Harry Potter who can remember kids happily picking up books and reading them out of school?
the books are essentially a british boardingschool/bildungsroman novel blended with the fantasy genre, so, yeah, it's not the hardcore high-fantasy that the middle-class realist reader has come to loathe. People like the series for numerous reasons, for one, there's Rowling's writing capabilities. She's able to produce a solid, coherent series of books with some intrigue, and whilst they may not contain the depth of intelligence of a classic literary text, it confronts various themes, such as racism, sexism, politics, other class societies etc and a general counter-normative attitude towards mainstream ideologically narrow viewpoints.
