I Need Essay Topics

So one of my English courses for this semester is the study of deviance in society. For those of you who don't know, "deviance" is any act or idea which people do that the rest of society finds taboo or sees in a negative light. For example acts such as tattooing and smoking right up to murder and rape.

Now for our next paper we need to choose one deviant topic and write an essay on what it is and why it is deviant. And before I decide on a topic I want to make sure I'm not forgetting any interesting possibilities, so I figured I'd run it past you guys.

Here's what I've already been considering:

1. Furries (but I think I would end up lacking in sources)
2. Cannibalism
3. Bug chasing
4. Drug abuse
5. "Sick fucks" like the Ripper Crew
6. Bodily modification
7. Shoplifting and other petty crimes

Any ideas?

Please do not tell me people out there actively seek to infect themselves with HIV to spread it. PLEASE. This makes me cringe more than the KKK, Godzilla and radiation sickness combined.

Well supposedly it's homosexual men that are known for it, and they go out and catch HIV because of many different reasons. I don't want to generalize so sorry if I am.

They could feel that they will eventually catch it anyway so they want to get it on their own terms instead of fearing it.

It could just be a sexual thing, like a fetish.

The reality is that it is very possible to live with AIDS so they can catch it and not immediately drop dead.

...You should research it yourself, but thats the general gist of it.

It's times like this I wish people like those would just die immediately and not spread the disease.
