I made this to promote my music, there's only a handful of tracks actually worth listening too. I haven't really made any music for about four or five months now because I've been focusing more on my art.
I think I've hit the good spot from this music promotion design, what struck me to make this was GvC Industry & Zeta-1 Records. I noticed there designs were better than mine so I got rather jealous. My determination to make something at professional standards gave me a good idea on what to make.
I like space, I like Spheres, I like Graffiti, I like that industrial rusty metal look & Japanese. That's pretty much what I had in mind when I was making this.
How Long Did It Take You?
How long it taken me doesn't really matter as how much time you spend on your work doesn't make it any better. If you spent one month designing something & you spent ten minutes colouring it in, The design could be awful but the colouring could be amazing. Time doesn't make art look great, its your technique & your originality that creates your ideas.

I don't have any grades at college or school for Art.

and your logo thing looks pretty shitty. circles as objects of interest don't do much for me and that graffiti drip effect is overused. the text is unreadable.

First of all, time is always of the essence - because it's the one thing nobody really has enough of.
As for the rest, I don't agree. I personally see art as a means of constant change: constantly breaking technique, and constantly searching for a greater ideal. I don't know about you, but I feel like with each image i've painted I am always on this quest to reinvent myself. I don't know how detectable that feeling is in my portfolio, but it's there.
You also noted originality as being something that makes art look "great".... But why? What is originality, really? I say it doesn't even exist!
Of course it is a bad thing to be cliche - it's almost the antithesis of being creative, but you can never achieve true originality. It's an abstract concept - especially when an original idea is, at most, derived from cliches.
So that being said, what really makes art great is an artist's ability to speak through his work.
In my opinion, the MOST important thing any artist can strive for is to create something that has the power stimulate an emotional reaction in others. That is what we "artists" are really trying to do - communicate!

Just wow, that's the sort of thing I wanted to hear. Cheers for the time to write something decent. You really no how the emotions is a key fact in what we do. My problem is when I'm annoyed or upset, I get mental blocks on my work, that pure frustration just destroys what idea's I had.

Criticism is an important thing to take. Everybody on this forum has the right to denounce the work you're putting on their screens. If all your doing is accepting "I LOVE YOU" as feedback then you are depriving yourself of growing andit will be the death of you in this field.
Instead, if you care about making your art look good, you should put the time into studying form.

If you stop drawing anytime someone says something negative about your stuff this probably isn't the hobby/career you want to be part of. And making a picture insulting them will make people lose respect for you.
There will always be people who don't like your work, and there will be people who do, getting discouraged isn't the way to go, just pick yourself up and prove that person wrong.
On the art itself, I personally fall under the people who don't like your art, it's flat and the shading is inconstant. It isn't very pleasing to they eye, especially the boogie man, I guess you were going for a dark feel, but a bright red background does not enforce that.

Okay, Im not going to mention the obvious things other poeple mentioned. so hear me out:
Art is indeed about communication. Giving a feeling form. That can be done in music, in words, in dance or in drawing (and many other ways). But lets compare drawing to speaking. Both are used to express your emotions, but if you dont know a language, its very hard to express your emotions.
If you dont know how to actually draw something good, it is hard to express your emotions.
This is probably where your mental block comes in. You want to express something, but you cant. Thats frustrating.
The only remedy there is, is to learn the language, learn to draw. That means practice drawing. Not practicing expressing your emotion, just practice drawing an apple, or a table, draw your mouse. if you can do that, move on to animals, humans, difficult stuff.
This is THE ONLY WAY to learn to draw.... practice practice practice.

You can do that. If you feel that is the way to go.
I doubt youll be more able to express your emotions through your art though. You probably wont, if you do not keep on drawing. So its up to you really.
The only way to get better is to practice, getting critique helps. it helps you see what areas you need to work on. Keep in mind though; poeple are not critiqueing the emotions you express, they are critiqueing the way you express them.

Very true, but if someone said, "Your art is shit mate" without any critics I'd class that as being a complete arse-hole. If tmkunt would of left some decent advice & maybe a few tips then maybe I wouldn't of taken this in such a harsh way.

And as far as I no, I've seen some pretty shit stuff on NG, but guess what I do, I leave a lot & a lot of helpful tips & advice on peoples threads so they can get the full potential, not be abused because they taken there time to show people what they've made.

You seem to have one of the shortest tempers I've ever seen on here, just chill out, act a bit nicer to everyone, and maybe post a bit more art? You've only showed like 3 pictures here. Try to find really diverse stuff so we can see more aspects of your style.

I love Sci-Fi stuff. I watched this manga films years ago with one wheeled motor bikes & some crazy looking robots. Must of been were I got the wheel idea, & for the rest of the robot the best ever Xbox game, Phantom Crash. If you've never played it before, march your way to Game Station & go buy it, Its brilliant!
I wouldn't say this is my style but more of a, 'I have an idea' thing. I might consider remaking it into some dark style comic drawing?
