Is that all that matters? Speed? Srsly speed?

Dude just because song is under 200bpm doesn't mean its sucks. I need to stress this to the community.

Yes I find it impressive if your song is of a certain quality and goes really fast but if you can't do it you shouldn't have to.

Why do we hate slower electronic music on this website?

How come the only genre where you're allowed to take you're time, and let the composition breath, is classical?

Why can't you learn to like lots of different music?

Everyother site on the web responds to slower music. Why must it be fast?

If music where sex the guy going 200bpm would finish early rather then take his time and enjoy it at 94 bpm.

:P

To put it simply: people are retards.

Honestly; I don't really know what makes speedy music so attractive to the big public on NG. I guess it's gives energy in a quick way, or something.

They do like Electro/house don't they? And that's mostly under 130bpm.

I really don't understand what you're talking about, unless you're exaggerating and you mean like 160-180 bpm, that seems to be quite popular on NG. Still... most "popular" music here is much slower than that

the biggest reason for big audience at high bpm is because people that make flashes are looking for those in boss battles. if somebody plays the game where the fast song is played in then it can go to the song and think its awesome. slow songs dont get much publicity for that. (only in spooky caves slow music can be applied)

Ideal dance music is at 138bpm.

DnB 175bpm

Any higher than that is somewhat rare actually. I haven't really heard really fast bpm tracks that much on here (and I mod)

Tempo is simply an expression of energy in a song. So I say pick whatever tempo you think is best suited for what you want to express.

Not really. You can have a lot of energy in a slow song as well.

i don't know if anyone said it's what only matters and looking at the extremely fast ones im not sure what you consider speedy

some fast songs i listen to sound nice slowed down, and it seems to be the intention.. to be listened to at different speeds.. they probably were creating it at a lower speed

and looking at a lot of reviews its probably because "its got more beats"

and its not like you're enjoying it in an intended state of mind

heres an example
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zkwtYKHQJ mc&fmt=18

except i had it resampled not the tempo slowed down
cause sounds that were pitched down intially sounded normal

basically more information packed in compared to slower songs of the same length

People who claim to be lovers of music but knock other genres because of stupid things (tempo, keys, etc) are just pussies that should not have their opinions taken into account.

Agreed. To me most of the energy is based in the dynamics, not the tempo.

Actually the tempo for classical pieces that sound fast is usually pretty slow, it's more so the rhythms that determine how it sounds (since classical music tends to make use of 32nds more often then other genres).

You know, I find that whenever people try to write turbo music at 200 bpm+ your ear just processes the sound at half half tempo. No accounting for taste?

It usually sounds like noise to me. Mind you there are all those metal bands that pull it off nicely. But they are usually extremely talented.

Agreed, as it can fairly difficult to discern rhythms at tempos exceeding 200+ bpm if the notes aren't precise.

Also I think the fastest tempo I've written at so far is 180 BPM and that's generally considered pretty fast in the music world.

Anything passed about 140 I find harder to master because there is more sound per capita so its harder to pin point and filter. Its also strange but I can't slow it down and speed it back up with the same mastering filter settings and get the same mix.

There is no need to be so aggressive I just wanted to make a thread discussing tempo. Stop acting so reactive. Its just a thread about tempo.

People really tend to underestimate the vast difference in what seems like a slight difference in tempo.

People will be all.. zomg this dnb is so fast!!!

And it may only be 160 bpm. But they would guess it at 200 or so.. because.. well.. if you're not producing it, or DJing it... how would you know how to grasp the difference properly?

Anyway, on that note.. it reminded me of a thread where a guy was making a flash and wanted a tetris remix at (I think he said like.. 250 or so bpm)

So I made a tetris remix at 225bpm: (oddly enough.. my most popular song of '07?)

And guess what.

He thought it was too fast. xD

I tend to stick to tempos between 32 and 89 bpm. If I want something faster, I'll use 32nd or 64th notes if I must.

Unless I'm doing some form of metal (minus the slow sub genres such as doom/drone...) whereas I'll use speeds around 160 to 200 bpm, just because its easier to program drums.
