Read the story here.

I personally believe this might be a good thing. Sure it's not a popular idea but it is the best idea I've seen come out of Obama so far. It's really more important for us to be well educated then to waste time having fun. However I think that 3 more hours is a bit to much. I'd have to go with 1 more hour of school. What do you think Newgrounds?

I wouldn't mind it if they cut the number of school days along with that.

Also, and I wonder why I didn't bring this up in my OP, but I think shorter summer vacations would'nt be a bad idea either. But not if it's too shortened.

It would get into most students free time. When I was in highschool, I attended community college about two hours after school, and got out at around 10:30pm. Not only would students today not be able to do out of school curricular activities, but they would barely be able to maintain enthusiasm.

Like the OP said, one hour is fine, but three is pretty much overboard.

If I spend all day at school, I won't have to play sports.

Hmm...

Politicians don't seem to get the real reason America is so stupid. Most of the kids I'm around don't give a flying fuck whether they graduate or not. If kids don't want to be educated, no amount of instructional hours is going to change that. It's more likely that a longer school day just makes those people less inclined to pay attention in the first place.

School doesn't need to be changed, just the attitude towards school.

But to do that we'd have to completely change what kids think of school.

In order to do that we'd have to erase everything that is anti-school and openly broadcast school as being cool. A process which could take many years.

Excactly, therefore I say anyone who isn't wanting to learn from school to gtfo (aka no law against parents allowing their children skip school).

Kids are supposed to be free. It is the only time we are allowed. Once we grow up, we have to get a job, and we will basically be working for the rest of our lives. The length of the school days is fine in my opinion. However, I would be in favor of the school year with no summer vacation. Instead, the school would have a week or two off every month, or something like that. I know there are a couple of schools that do something like that, and it seems to work./

But are they supposed to be stupid. If we keep them in school longer then we can teach them more of how to be more productive members of society and lead better lives.

I think the real problem is that kids have to take classes that they may never use in the profession that they choose, if we offered more classes that focused on certain jobs, like college, then maybe kids wouldn't slack as much. And yeah, you're gonna say that that's what college is for, but what if someone wants to go to Harvard Medical School, but even though they know a lot about the human body, they got a C- in Math, so they couldn't go there. So just because they slacked in a class they didn't need, they end up not getting into the college they wanted.

I hope it passes, I saw way too many people just being stupid in school. If you have longer school days, you have more edjucation time. The more you get, the more you can learn. By doing that, you can help prevent crime caused by dumbasses who didn't pay attention in school. Although as of this moment, I surely believe the economy has become a steaming pile of shit.

Putting us in school longer isn't going to help, we need better education, you can't just throw in 3 extra hours and expect everything to be better.

School doesn't need to be changed, just the attitude towards school.

Though that is true, a few extra hours mgiht help. Although I saw the kids at my schools, and so many don't give a shit. They just think they'll grow up and get discovered and join the NFL or NBA or something else. The chance of that happening isn't very good. Some people jsut can't be taught.

It's like the ICP song scatterbrain.

I do think that some classes aren't needed, such as art class or music. That would probably help them cut spending. I wanted to be a mathmatician(spelling?), but I still had to take art class. Some classes should be optional, but things like science, math, reading, and writing are all important, even if a job you want when you get older doesn't really involve it.

a 10 hour school day. if you have a block schedule like my school in texas and kansas had, your classes are gonan be at least 2 hours long. if you have a 6 class every day schedule like my school in montana, they'll be an hour and a half each. i really doubt that'll work
