Okay, so here's what happened.

I own a mac. And before anyone crucifies me, I don't really care about which is better. It was just the computer my college provided me with. My friend has an HP laptop that runs windows... I don't know much more than that. I was showing him some funny websites that I always go to, and as soon as we entered the page huge flashing banners and warning signs came up. Trying to sift through "HOLY FUCK MALWARE ATTACK" and "GET OUT OF THIS FUCKING WEB PAGE RIGHT NOW FGT!" we came to the conclusion that going to that particular site was a bad idea. When back on my mac, I accessed the same site without a problem.

There are 0 viruses on my computer, I have a pro friend who checks for them all the time... Is there any reason this should happen? Is this b/c of the type of computer we were using (I was using mac, he was using PC) or the browser (I was using firefox, he was using internet explorer)?

Share any ideas or similar experiences below...

Macs don't get viruses. The Mac OS doesn't allow people to fuck with it like Windows does, I think. Something like that.... I dunno....

So yeah, Mac's don't get viruses.

Now watch this thread become an argument about which is better.

I think your friend using internet explorer to access the page had more of an issue when it comes to exploitable vulnerabilities that viruses use which, unlike firefox, is more secure.

AHEM GOOGLE CHROME.

The OP only mentioned two browsers which where Firefox and Internet Explorer. Why would i mention Google Chrome if it had no mention in the original post and had no relevance to the problem posted?

Do you have any addons on your Firefox, such as ABP (Ad Block Plus) or NoScript? That would grossly change how a site might appear.

Also, he shouldn't use IE. At all. Ever.

I tried noscrip. All it does in make things slower... I really don't have any kind of virus blocking software... I guess I am just lucky I haven't been infected yet.

No one makes viruses for MACs for the same reason no one mods Zunes. Just not economical.

Read up on it, your Mac can only get like one or two viruses; which are extremely hard to make and come by. Your Mac will forever be protected because of it's awesomeness. I have an Acer Laptop, (with XP), and I want a Mac so bad that I made it look like this:

Viruses

Basically like other users already stated, Macs don't receive the same viruses as PCs. To add, IE is the worst browser to use, since it makes the PC very vulnerable to viruses. So I would tell him to switch to Firefox at least.

To be honest I could care less which is better, as long as they play my porn.
"ahem"
but mac's can get viruses, and there are ones just as bad as the ones that hit PC's, But for line every 10,000 Pc viruses there is only one or two Mac Viruses.
But either way, hoping around the Net with out any protection is just stupid

Macs arent immune to virus', its just that all the people who write viruses are on PCs

this should right away tell you which is better. Hackers dont use peices of shit.

And there are some viruses out there for macs, they are just few and far between.

Its time to play games and jerk off. And Im all out of quarters.

Yeah, it's not that Macs don't get viruses, it's that, like, 90% of the viruses are written for Windows, since, viruses are essentially terrorism, and terrorists want to cause maximum destruction. Bet you anything, they people who wrote viruses for Macs are raging Windows fanboys who got pissed off by all the Mac users going" LAWL NO VIRUSES HERE!".

P.S. Linux for the win.

I will make you a sig/wallpaper/header.

Are macs completely immune to malware? Because I have been watching free movies on a site that is apparently laced with malware... It's a great site and I don't want to stop using it.

AGAIN, no. Most likely though, the malware on that site is windows based, so you're likely safe.

As other people had said, most viruses are on PC.
This is mainly because hackers don't like to use crappy computers.

thats not true really
macs are a minority, most computers are windows pcs so most viruses are written for windows, but mac viruses exist

Mac's can be fucked around with just like Windows, however, it is less popular for fucking around with since 7% of the market share isn't that good if you want to spread your virus.

It's not so much that Macs have programming against viruses as much as Macintosh writes all of the programs for its operating system. While this immunizes Mac users to most viruses, this also gives the Macintosh corporation a complete monopoly over Mac users, since they can't download many (if any) external programs for the operating system. Hell, a Mac can't even run an .exe file.

However, there are still a few malicious things that can hit a Mac. There are a few viruses written for Macs, and malicious Batch files (.bat) can still affect your computer (batch files can be anywhere from a forkbomb, which overloads your memory, to something that logs you off every time you log on.)

I swear I feel retarded when I use macs, the one button mouse kills it for me then I end up opening the whole program panel. Back on topic, it's mostly because he has a PC, Mac's are immune to pc viruses just like a human is immune to a cats cold.

People who hate macs because of the one button mouses are ridiculous... I am using a two button mouse right... How you ask? Well, I bought it, and then I plugged it into my computer... Shocking I know!
