When people tell me how much they love The Office, I feel like I'm missing something. Why is the idea of 'awkward funny' becoming so popular now? The only time anything really funny happens is from Dwight, but other than that, it's just thriving on people staring at each other in silence.

At least, that's what I think, but I just don't get how it's funny.

So I can't tell you why it's funny.

It's funny because the scenarios make me laugh.
What, you want an in depth analysis of why I laugh at every scenario because you don't laugh?
Fuck off, it's called having different tastes.

Yeah, I've always found The Office painfully unfunny. There was one episode of Extras which was good but other than that, every Gervais thing I've seen has been fairly lame.

I thought the one episode that opened with them doing parkour was pretty funny.

Sounds to me people say it's funny so that they'll be different than most people so they go and pretend to be like someone else and pretened to like the show, but can't say why, just so they can rebel against the man.

Yeah, it was pretty funny, they stole it from another show, but it was still funny.

And yeah like people have been saying it's dry humor, but for me it's more like they're not forcing it, and forced humor is just plain stupid.

Hahah okay. People watch a program they don't really like, in their own homes, with nobody else able to tell they're watching it, just to pretend they get it.

You're a bloody moron. A show like that wouldn't survive for very long, would it?

Ricky Gervais is, to me, the funniest man on TV. His Politics and Animals stand ups were brilliant, and him and Stephen Merchant seem to do particularly well as partners whether writing or acting.

The American version of the office is sometimes funny.... dry humor.

The British version is straight up fucking stupid. I watched it for about 15 minutes and did not even crack a smile.... except while thinking about how fucked up the guy's teeth are.

The US version of The Office doesn't even contain much dry humour. That's the difference between the original and the adapted versions.

I have absolutely no idea what you just said, or how it made sense, but nobody can rebel against "the man" by watching a comedy tv show.

It's a good show. There's no canned laughter (+5 points for a sitcom), none of the jokes really feel forced, it has a plot you can follow.

A lot of people treat it like a soap opera too, so there's some appeal to people who care about that stuff.

It may not be laugh out loud all the time funny like other shows, but it has its appeal to it, and people can relate because it's not wacky and out of the norm to see people why actually behave like that.

I don't watch the show that much but I do enjoy it

Sometimes. I think the characters' quirks are what make it funny.

Michael is an idiot who some how got a management position.
Dwight is a dork and very strange.
Stanley hates everybody.
Andy is a yuppy.
Kelly is materialistic as all hell.
Ryan is a shitty person.
Toby is depressing.
Oscar is gay.
Angela is an uptight Christian who loves her many cats. (To the point of keeping pne in her desk)
Kevin is a dim-witted accountant.
Merdith is a whore.
Creed is the crazy old guy with a questionable grip on reality.

Then Jim and Pam are the normal ones in the middle of it all. What makes the show funny is all these characters bumping together in an office setting while trying to get work done so their company doesn't go under.

"Photoshopping a picture of your face over the face of your girlfriend's ex-husband on a ski trip with their kids is a bold move. But Michael is a bold guy. (pause) Is bold the right word?"

I am a new terror born in death, a new superstition entering the unassailable fortress of forever. I am legend.

I've tried watching both the original and new one and they just mind fucked me. I found some parts produced a small laugh but other wise it was slow and boring.

In the old one, the only thing I ever found hilarious was the inflatable penis episode.

If I were tied up, would you ring my bell?

I agree, in my opinion Dwight is probably the funniest character. My least favorite part of the show is the Michael Scott (Steve Carell) humor that the show relies on. Almost everything else about the show is great, but I can't stand that "incompetent" style of humor they keep throwing in.
