Seriously, why are these things so popular? Is it comfortable putting these things in your outer ear? Or how about the hearing loss, mentioned specifically for them in addition to the general warning? Obviously someone might say they're "easier to hide", but it's pretty clear that you're listening to something if you've got a wire running from your iPod or whatever up to your ears: even if it's in your pocket, someone would have to be blind not to see your wire. And let's not forget that they're more prone to falling out than regular headphones!

I'm saying this because I recently went looking for a new set of headphones (my school's computers don't have speakers, because if they did it would be chaos), but all I found were these damned earbuds and a three-pack with headphones, earbuds, and some design that had something to put on the ear which, despite feeling like a bad pair of glasses which is far too tight around the ear, is still a more comfortable design that the earbuds. I had to waste $10 extra for two designs I didn't need (admittedly I kept the on-ear ones for emergencies) just because I couldn't find any but the earbuds which I hate, and which always fall out of my ear.

So why do you people wear these annoying things?!

You get a better sound out of them. And excellent for blocking the noise your irritating Mom when she comes bitching at you for no reason.

Easier to carry around, depending on whihc ones you have their comfortable, I hate the iPod ones but the ones with rubber that go right in your ear (although they get wax all over them) are very comfortable.

In ear head phones can over a better sound quality for a cheaper price since they help to block out extra noise. And they're amazingly comfortable if you spend more then $9.99 on a pair of cheap plastic ones.

As for them doing harm to your hearing? Try keeping the volume within normal human limits. That might help.

They're convinient, small and you can hear music from them.

Also, if you invest some money in them and buy something like Koss Sparkplugs or Skullcandy Full Metal Jackets, they feel pretty comfortable.

Earbuds suck, the sound that comes out of them are terrible and they are really uncomfertable. Proper headphones are best in any case.

Your agument with the hearing loss is debatable. You don't have to play them loud enough to drown out all other noise.
I cap the volume at a certain point, if I can't hear it at that level then I won't bother.

Personally I go for earbuds because I like to listen to plent of music. Wearing headphones for extended periods of time can make my ears uncomfortable. Earbuds are not the case, the fit nice and snug. Yes they do fall out sometimes but it is no big fuss.
I also don't have to worry about them mucking up my hair in any manner.

I prefer earbuds because they don't fall off my head when I go running. If I had a big pair I would look ridiculous while running around the neighborhood. Also, ear buds fit in my pocket, so when I arrive at my destination I can put them some where, instead of wearing them around my neck and looking like a tool.

Earbuds don't fall out or shift when you jog.

Earbuds leave virtually no space between your ear and the source of sound, so the music is crisper and more defined.

You can sleep with them comfortably unlike headphones.

They're cheap.

You only risk hearing loss if you're an idiot and keep the volume maxed.

Everything comes with them now.

They hardly take up and space, you can wrap them around your iPod of what have you and pocket it easily.

I'd rather be deaf than to listen the bitching and moaning of the world around me. I hate everyone around me since they're bunch of morons. Looking to my right I see 3 myspace users and behind me... woman complaining whose 21 years old to her husband about her 5 year old child. and to my right... bunch of people talking like they're gangsta... yea I'd rather be deaf than to listen to them.

lol where do you put your fat headphones when you're done listening and on the go? in your pocket?? I've been using the earbuds that came with my iphone, they have a pause/play/nextsong button/mic on it that u can hardly see which comes in handy, and the sound quality is great, but earbuds do hurt your ears.. im planning on getting these soon they have them at Fry's for $25

2 points:
1) you can't hear anyone around you, except for the music from your mp3.
2) they can't hear your music playing (this irritates people) no matter what the volume is.

Personally, I feel more comfortable with music playing, which is why I use ear-buds. When I'm just walking somewhere in the city, I use ear-buds, because they're easy to use, fit in my pocket, and do what they were designed for. I don't have those in-ear ones though, it seems uncomfortable to me.

Using regular ear-buds the vibrations still have a bit of an alternative way to go than straight into your ear. It just seems safer for my hearing to, as you never know you turn up your volume by accident.

When I'm on the train, I prefer using actual headphones, simply because I'm an audiophile and prefer high-quality sound. And no thanks to skullcandy; they only look fancy, but that's it. They colour your sound rather than giving you the actual sound that's in the song you're playing. I prefer what they call 'a flat frequency response'.

I don't see how anyone thinks they're comfortable: every time I ever tried to put them in, it felt like shoving a large rock in my ear. And just like the rock, they fell out soon after, providing a bit of relief from those things. I usually either put my headphones in my backpack or in the large pockets of my hooded sweatshirt, so yeah, the "portability" of the earbuds is unimportant.

I'm mainly complaining, though, about how they're almost the only listening devices available at places like my school bookstore. There's at least a few people like me who don't like them, right? The only way I could buy the kind I like was the three-pack, which cost more (which I consider wasted on having to buy a design I'll never need to use and a design that I hate).

I have earbuds. They were expensive, but they sound great and are comfortable. I use them for out-and-about situations, as they're easier to put in your pocket when you're done with them...you can't really do that with over-the-ear headphones.

Ok pretend your ear is your ass and the earbud is a cock. then you will do well from practice.
