Well as a real musician myself I don't appreciate this genre. I have a lot of friends that listen to it and I have listened with them but I didn't take a liking to it.
Definitely depends on what they were listening to. 98% of all mainstream rap is shitty. 75% of "popular" (Not mainstream, but popular) rap is shitty. But there is a lot of underground stuff that is amazing, and some really awsome subgenres (Nerdcore, for example).
I'm sure the MMRF will be heartbroken after missing out on that 50c. If I want to donate to charity I will, and don't use it to get votes.
Hey, I know it's not much, I'm just saying that after awhile it adds up and it's easy to contribute. The reason the amount is so low as it is is because I'm a poor college student haha, I'm just doing what I can. As for "using it to get votes," well this round of the competition is all about promotion and using various ways to get people to vote and listen to your music. I figure this will get people's attention, get votes, and perhaps get some people to check out my stuff as well. Plus it's not the only thing I'm doing to get votes, I've been passing out free CDs and fliers, going to all sorts of sites, etc.
Although, I share the love for composing music and writing. But rap doesn't involve real musical talent. Perhaps lyrical. But not musical.
As a person who's been doing this for nearly four years, it takes a lot more than you might think, and it's all relative to how much work you're going to put into it. A lot of rappers either make their own beats or have very talented people that make their beats, and a lot of them also use real instruments to make said beats, so I don't see how it doesn't take musical talent.
Take Grieves, my favorite rapper, for example. The lyrics, the flow, and the beat are all spectacularly made, and the end result is a fantastic song and an even more fantastic album.
I don't ask anyone to like the genre, but people should still at least respect it for the hardworking people that are a part of it.
