Gory, do whatever makes you happy. Although, I have a big concern, your monotone voice.

More enthusiasm or the students would either hate you, or fall asleep. I have no doubt in your screaming abilities.

The best math teacher I had explained the subject matter in a way that made it easy for us to understand. He also had high expectations of what we could achieve, so we didn't feel like he was babying us either. He made us take notes, practice problems in class, and do homework most every night so we would get even more practice outside of the classroom. I think all three of those things really helped us to learn and internalize the material.

That's essentially what I'd try to be, although I know firsthand how annoying and overwhelming homework can be. So I probably would try not to give too much homework. I also know that math is one of those subjects where you have to do it and practice over and over again in order to get it. It's near impossible to grasp math simply by listening to lectures...at least for me it was.

God fucking damn it...

To be blatantly honest (because this is the internet and you have indirectly asked for opinions on your character by stating your future ambition...), I don't think you have the people skills necessary to communicate effectively with co-workers, deal with unmotivated and misbehaving teenagers, and inspire anyone to further their education in math. Me, as a high school student, would not respect you as an authority figure or an adult, and I know there are a lot worse people than me in the world.

Hopefully this doesn't come off as an attack, because it's not. Constructive criticism is probably the right phrase... I think you can eventually be successful at whatever you choose to do, but the Gorybliz that I've met online isn't quite that person yet. Take what you will from my opinions I suppose!

As a point of interest:
The best math teacher that I ever had was horrible at math, but it was the most fun I had all day. She would make errors consistently and even mentioned that she detested the subject matter on occasion, but that was regardless. The fact that she got every student in that class to show up every day and to do their homework with some level of enthusiasm was simply amazing, and I took continuing math classes in high school in the hopes that I could have her as a teacher again.

Sometimes the best teachers are 'bad teachers', if you know what I mean.... Someone who can relate to students often has a better chance of reaching them than someone who preaches a subject matter on a chalkboard.

when you talk, i dont care what it means, shouldn't just stare at you, should i?

Most of my teachers haven't exactly been concerned with explaining
the logic of the math we do, just how to do it.
That's why, I believe, high schoolers learn to hate math.
They memorize it like they do all their other courses,
History, English, Foreign Languages, Electives...

As a student, I personally try to understand why things happen
the way they happen because it makes it a hell of a lot easier to remember.
Some people are just natural at it, and others can't exactly learn
the material, just memorize it.
That's where teachers should come in and throw it in their face:
this is how subject A works, and this is how you apply it.

My current math teacher is awesome,
she's a lot more concerned about using your head and figuring
things out than sticking to a defined curriculum.
Today we played chess because she wasn't feeling well.

Lastly, for those of you who know me a bit better, do you really think that I have the potential to become an effective teacher?

I'm not saying I know you that well, but I do know that you're an
intelligent person, and way more mature than I'll probably ever be.
If you could teach people how to apply more of what
they know, I think I'll love you.

Good luck. <3

Absolutely teach math. Kids hate math teachers because it's hard. But at least in High School, a math teacher that makes it click for a few students becomes a king to them. My senior math teacher opened up a world of possiblies for me, I still visit his classroom today, as a friend now rather than a student.

More to the point, do you? If you truly want to be a Maths Teacher then you should make a good one. Being a teacher would be the best job in the world IMO as you get the best holidays and you don't work all week.

What are these chemicals in my head, that tell me I should be dead?

My geometry teacher was one of the greatest teachers I've had. He never played favorites, and he treated everyone equally. That's probably the biggest quality I look for in teachers beyond the standard teaching abilities.

Personally, I don't think that relating to students is a weak point of mine at all.

Obviously there are a shitload of things I talk about besides math, and I've been through the system, so...yeah.

Today, in class, I sat down in my math room like any normal day.

After a while, I noticed something.

The students were restless.

They spent the day fucking with my math teacher and disrespecting him. I really felt bad for him, he's a nice guy. I hate New York.

You go to school in the Bronx, right?

I probably wouldn't teach anywhere in the Bronx unless it's a nationally respected public school like Bronx Science (my brother is currently a senior there), Riverdale Country School (which is private and more expensive than Harvard) or a decent school over in Woodlawn, which I find to be a pretty okay neighborhood. A lot of troubled and violent motherfuckers (many of whom eventually drop out anyway) plague most Bronx schools, which is unfortunate. But that's also true for a lot of schools in the rest of the city. I know discipline is going to be a crucial element in my career and I might spend way more time than I'd want to verbally smacking unruly idiots rather than teaching the course content.

God fucking damn it...

Hey-oh, math teacher here... (well kind of)

Mathematics is not that difficult if you're willing to see the patterns. Once you get the preset rules and are witty at times, things flow out of the given easily.
The fun with math however starts later when you can build a theory and get interesting, visual results from it. Take for instance the Euler-Poincaré characteristic of a manifold. topology is certainly an interesting topic in advanced mathematics. really, it's the deal that closes all the rest (heh, closes...)

As for becoming a math teacher, try to pursue this with interest in math so you can keep motivating your students and please love the theory and don't race through it with less enthusiasm than your students and make it so you understand the theory yourself. What is really bad is a teacher that teaches a course he/she has not yet mastered him/herself.

The last part was the case with my 7th grade math teacher. It was just 7th grade math, but he really made it clear he didn't understand most of the material, even stuff as simple as two-step linear equations. Then again, his main job was teaching clay animation instead of math--we were in his only math class.

You have to love what you're doing though dude. Like have a reason to teach maths, because teaching now is a nightmare, you get low pay most of the time, deal with annoying teenagers a lot of the time, have to get up early and spend most of your life working, and all that other stuff. Plus you're actually ensuring they get jobs and contribute to society.

So if you don't want to teach students because you care then the job probably isn't right for you...if you aren't strict or dedicated enough then thats also a problem.

On another note: dont teach math lol coz its gay and boring and al teachers rnt rly nice so its stupid and stuff that youll be makin things bad

Maths was always my worst subject...

So many fucking numbers, oddly though, I seemed to be a genius when it came to spelling. I could actually spell every word in the dictionary at the age of 6. (I'm not kidding...It just came natural to me.)

If your reading this, then why do you care?
