Best of Sept - What a Fail...

Seriously, Tom?

Is it just me, or are the Top 4 Games for "Best of September" the ones that have been in the huge "New This Week" box on the front page?

This month's best games weren't based on quality, but quantity. Think of all the people that have clicked on the big giant box with this week's game by some big author. The "New This Week" box just skews the ratings! Everyone, I mean EVERYONE clicks on it. It's human nature. I know I click on it without thinking.

And personally, all the "New This Week" games have sucked. But, it doesn't matter what I think; They get 10,000 times the views that anything else gets. So even if only 30% of people like the game, the "New This Week" games are STILL going to win!

I couldn't care less that my game was only runner up. You don't get money for Best of the Month, and you don't get a shiny award. Why would I care? I just think it's unfair to all Flash developers and artists how the system works.

There is tons of quality stuff that doesn't get recognized whatsoever, but I feel your pain. The voting system does suck but its all up to Tom to change it and thats a lot of work.

Wait. If there's no monetary or trophy award for best of the month... then you, NOR THE USERS are getting an award for best of the month. So why would any of you care? Reward is a MOOT point by your own reasoning.

What he's saying is legit.

It doesn't matter how many people watch a flash. If 30 out of the hundred people that watch a flash like it, it's going to have the same score as if 30,000 out of the million people that watch a flash like it. The fact that it's in that box merely causes the game to have more views.

Think of the games of the week this way.

Three out of the five are related to a series or group that's associated with newgrounds. Madness, Dad's Home, and the Cave of Wonders is about the admins.

I think Time Fcuk was an awesome game. Canabalt is pretty good. It's not the greatest, but it's addicting and people liked it. Just because you don't like something doesn't mean the voting system is broken, albeit there is a little bit of gray area.

How didn't you see any co-authors? Krinkles and Mindchamber are both co-authored. I'm guessing Mindchamber would get the majority of the money since he did almost all the artwork.

Well errm, I didn't really look at the co-authors when I first played the game I just saw Tom Fulp made it and even when it's listed on the forum it just says Tom Fulp so I took a wild guess. And I only say Krinkels will get the money is because both Tom and Mindchamber are staff so they don't get entered into contests at all for money.

Was pretty fair, but Canabalt doesn't really deserve any award. IMO if it was submitted 3 years ago it would get 3.7 at most. Very empty game that gets boring fast.

Why make a thread because your game couldn't get the best of month? Why complain about it in the first place? You are the one who said that you couldn't care less because your game couldn't be the best of the month, as you aren't getting any money or trophy awards, so I don't understand what you are angry about.

Well, this doesn't apply to me, like some other people. I don't click on them just for the hell of it, I click only if they interest me.

If any of my games got front page, even if the daily 5th or something, I'd feel so proud. Most of all, I wouldn't be all "Why isn't it Daily 1st?"

Meh no offense, but with the runner-ups like this, no wonder why the boxed ones were the winner. I played every one of the winner games at least 4 times. Though I did enjoy window door and madness projectile (though I did agree not as good as 1,2, and 3), they should've been closer to top 5.

But I think people perfer more action than windows doors and they voted madness projectile lower than it should be because they were making a point to bring back the old system.

PS Notice that "Another Small Favor" wasn't on the top list ;)

Dadgame and Time Fcuk are awesome games, and they deserve the Best of September. I don't know about the other games, but those two make it OK for me...

Man you really hate Canabalt that much that you would go harass the author about the simplicity in his game? Thats pretty pathetic. Its a fun addicting game and 3 years ago it would look better than it does right now

The reason the top four are also the ones feature in "New Game This Week" is because the NGTW showcases the new work of good authors on Newgrounds.
