I think Valve likes to make games more then make money. Gabe Newell who runs Valve is very passionate about what he does.
Valve also happens to make plenty of money by doing those weekend deals, bundles and major sales on their games. They get incredible amounts of boosts in sales from these.
Valve isn't a souless corporation. As someone said earlier in the thread, Valve invited the two people who began the boycott to see the new game.
Gabe Newell said that he would visit Australia if someone bought him the ticket, so some people got some money together and Gabe held up to his end of the deal.
He's a gem in the game industry for he is trying to improve the PC gaming market alont with being fair to the customers. This is no Blizzard.

Left4Dead was gimmicky and shitty... a polished turd. The campaigns had incredibly limited replayability, and the only really major difference between each playthrough were the Tank and Witch spawns. As a shooter, it is incredibly simplistic, the versus mode is unbalanced and the 'free expansions' are pretty much just rubbish. The Crash Course thing was just some left-overs from the original process that was tacked on. As for L4D2 and the Boycott, I got into an argument with one of the founders... and was convinced that he's nothing but an overzealous twat that thinks everyone is in EA's pockets or something retarded like that. I would not trust his opinion on the sequel. From what I can see, L4D2 is a massive departure form the more darkly style of the original, venturing into the lands of what almost appears to be Team Fortress 2; more colors, more silliness, less horror... not that the original was scary, either, but at least the stylistic content was alright.

L4D was not worth the initial 50$ price tag, but for a 20$ game it is fine. L4D2 is too similar to the original, with most of the foundation having already been laid, and wouldn't be worth more than 20$ either, at most. Might buy it at a discounted price... otherwise I'll pass. FEAR 2 and Killing Floor had a lot more bang for the buck.

Except for Couter Strike: Condition Zero which wasn't good... it was crap... not shit though.

The Boycot's only reason for not getting it is that it is released too soon after the first one, so L4D 1 will not be played as much... tough shit.

VALVe made a game called L4D.SOme people like it, some people don't.
A few months later they announce that they will release a sequel.Everybody goes "LOLWTF?", then some people start RAEGing, and some people start praising.
Personally, l think it was a stupid move from a marketing point of view...this surprsied me, since VALVe knows how to sell its games alright...take a look at TF2: a game more than two years old, still selling loads of copies thanks to the updates and "meet the" videos.
But announcing that L4D2 will be out totally killed L4D...nobody's gonna buy it anymore since they'll wait for the sequel...IMO, VALVe shoud've waited a bit longer...l mean, they probably started working on L4D2 immediately after L4D...as if they knew that their game was going to fail..seriously, wtf.

Actually saying "L4D sucks" is not a statement of opinion, as he never said that it only sucks in his opinion. He was implying that the game sucks to everyone everywhere. It COULD be his opinion, but he never specified if he only though it sucked to him or if he thought it literally DOES suck, no opinion about it, which would obviously be false since that is a normative statement.

They did start on L4D 2 right after the release.

The problem I have with it is not how quickly they started making the second one, but the fact that the first one was never complete, yet they tagged it as a full price game.

Its just a stupid move, why didn't they take the course of TF2.

I mean if they need extra cash, I would of been more then happy to purchase some DLC, as long as it wasn't Crash Course.

The Left 4 Dead 2 Boycott is a group of individuals who have pledged to boycott Valve's upcoming release of Left 4 Dead 2 on November 17th, 2009. We have assembled a manifesto outlining the basic concensus of many members of our community. Just to show how lazy they were on the last DLC(Crash Course) look at the versus Icons. Everyone was updated but the infected. Not only that but matchmaking has been "updated" more then once, and my only question now is will matchmaking actually be proficient on L4D2. The boycott failed mostly because; Half the member spammed everything, The creators of the boycott just gave up. I'll probably give in but 10 melee weapons is a little much. I hope they don't include the original weapon tiers in l4d as new weapons in the sequel(as in counting they renamed and edited waeapons for the replacements as "new" weapons). I think it looks pretty badass, being a person supporting the boycott. But I'm more or less worried this will be a trend. I mean look at fucking Madden, every year a new game with very little put into it. As one person said "isn't is about time for animated grass" All I hope is you fucking whiny bitches against the boycott wont cry your fucking tears out when every one of valves games gets sequel every year. People have lost sight of why we're here. The comments are always full of trolls, people bashing Valve and phishers. What is more, people are unwilling or unable to wait for Valve to follow through in any cohesive way. Valve is at least trying to make things right, there will be speed bumps on the way, however we will get there. Even if it is not as quickly as we would like. The boycott has served its purpose and it is now up to you all as individuals to decide what is right for you.
