You know it's great to look back on video games in the past. The history alone is a wonderful thing to see and it shows how games have grown overtime and to see what people considered greatness back then. Arguing about graphics is utter bullshit, as long as the game is fun there is nothing wrong.

As some people have seen although it is possible to get old games through mean of XBOX Live Arcade, Wii Virtual Console, and PlayStation Network, there is still a demand for old video game systems and their original cartridges and discs.

We should praise the newer games, but when it comes to series, publishers, and developers, it is important to go back in time to see where it all started.

A good example is RARE. We all know them for Conker's Bad Fur Day and Banjo-Kazooie, but did some of you even know they did the Donkey Kong Country series and BattleToads?

So how many of you are considering an older system or have not yet surrendered their old system, even though you can get such titles off of the newer systems?

Now There's nothing with these days material coming i mean it's really great but they do not have the same amount of quality they would have spent in older games in every area gameplay, music

I still keep all of my favorite game cartridges.

Growing up with games such as Tetris Attack, it's not easy to give them up.

Because the average NG BBS user is childish and immature, which makes it prime trolling grounds.

I occasionally play my SNES, but right now I'm busy playing N64 since I bought Banjo-Kazooie and Pokemon Snap.
Also, I bought the original Super Mario Brothers although I don't have a NES. Talk about being nerdy.

In the beginning the Universe was created. This has made a lot of people very angry and has been widely regarded as a bad move.

Okay I don't know much about Mr. KeithHyrbrid other than he likes to use a user's age against them.

Blaze-Heatnix knows well. When he bashes nostalgia he only does it out of fairness. When it comes down to it Blaze hates people saying that the old game is better than the new game with hardly any evidence to offer or just stupid evidence.

I'm posting this thread to see who keeps their old stuff or in light of new games such as Metal Gear Solid 4, Grand Theft Auto IV, and New Super Mario Bros. will said people be purchasing a retro gaming system and said games to see where they all began?

Like Metal Gear for the NES and Metal Gear Solid for the PlayStation. Or Grand Theft Auto 1 and/or 2 for the PlayStation. Heck even getting Super Mario Bros. for the NES or Super Mario All-Stars for the Super Nintendo.

Just looking back at memories and why people enjoy games now.

Star Tropics

Fuck, I loved that game. A yo-yo as a weapon in an adventure-RPG? Yes please.

Flicky

Arcade game. Nice and simple, and the flickies made a reappearance in Sonic 3D Blast.

Jurassic Park

Which one? There were a lot of them. That said, my favorite were the light-gun games.

Vector Man

Loved the shit out of this, but the sequel was better. Nice fast-paced action.

Tetris 2

Like Tetris but with mutlicolored blocks. Kinda liked it, but it was better executed in The Next Tetris. Even then, regular Tetris on the GB is the best.

No google search.

Too much fun!

Super Mario Kart

I liked the isometric view, but felt that the N64 version was superior.

Mario Picross

Loved that game, I just can't get enough Picross. I even bought the recent DS release.

Kid Icarus

Kinda felt like Metroid, probably due to the recycled graphics. Loved the music.

River City Ransom

The only beat em up where button mashing was actually useful. BARF!

Aladdin

A good SNES classic. It was released during the golden era of licensed games, along side Darkwing Duck and Goof Troop.

Donkey Kong 3

A nice change from the play style of the other two games. I just wish that Stanley would make a comeback though.

Pong

Come on. It's pong. Hell, I've played more pong than Halo. Because, ya know, it's actually fun.

Battle Toads

Love me some battletoads. I played the NES game a lot, but I liked the GB version more. It makes me sad to see how easy games are these days.

Bomberman

Great fun with friends, kinda average without.

Mega Man 2

Good MM game, but I liked 3 better, as it had the most bosses. Still, 2 is arguably one of the best NES games of all time.

Castlevania

THOSE FUCKING MEDUSA HEADS.

Wario's Woods

The NES's swan song. A great little puzzle game, but there's better stuff out there.

I still have most of my original Game Boy games, though I now play them on my Game Boy Advance. If I ever find an older system in good working order, though, I'll buy it if I have cash. And if I ever get rich, I will build the greatest possible shrine to gaming and its history, just because I love the games.

Though, we probably place a little too much emphasis on nostalgia. Sure, everyone remembers Sonic the Hedgehog in 2D and sees that legacy shit on by the modern sequels, and we look back and see the great games of the past as we knew them as children, but does anyone remember the crap? The shit is forgotten. Only modern critics of old games preserve memory of them (AVGN, anyone?), while we, in our years of responsibility for our own gaming, are now playing the crap of the present and comparing it to the turds of the past. Admittedly games in those days went for fun instead of realism (because seriously, how realistic could a Super Nintendo get?), and any game company deserving of its production license emphasized good gameplay instead of "Look at how awesome our graphics are!", but the good games are still there, you just gotta look for 'em!

That last paragraph was written in a spirit of devil's advocacy.

Zoda's Revenge: Star Tropics II

Better than the first one, and I liked how Mike wasn't stuck to a grid like before.

Yoshi

Fun little puzzle game.

Yoshi's Cookie

Same as above. It's a different kind of puzzle this time around, but same idea otherwise.

Dr. Mario

I have fond memories of this. One of my favorite recollections is seeing my dad beat all 20 levels. Fuck, it was awesome.

Star Fox

DO A BARREL ROLL.

Golf

Eh, it was pretty good, but there were better sports games at the time.

Tennis

Ugh... almost unplayable at this point. But hey, it was a launch game for the NES, what do you expect? They can't all be zingers.

Nintendo Open Tournament Golf

Better than the other golf game, and of course it just had to star Mario.

Soccer

The weird control scheme killed it for me.

Baseball

Oh god, this was hard. I hated how the bat wouldn't swing all the way unless you held down the button.

Shark, Shark!

You eat smaller fish and then grow so you can eat bigger fish. I wonder how many people have made flash games like that without even knowing the history...

Mega Man 6

It's megaman. Not much to say here, except MR. X was Wily. Oh, and the sky is blue.

Castlevania III

Best one. I liked being able to switch between characters, instead of sticking to just one.

Ice Hockey

The more I think about it, the more I realize that NES sports games usually had shit controls. Tecmo Bowl was ace though.

Donkey Kong Jr. Math

It's math, but disguised in Donkey Kong Jr. It goes without saying that it's the weakest in the series, but one of the better Nintendo edutainment games out there.

Urban Champion

High attack, low attack, high block low block. A primitive street fighter, but I do love seeing a flower pot land on my enemy.

Alex Kidd

A slow-paced platformer that required well-timed jumps. How did these guys transition to making Sonic games?

Wario Land II

Those fuckers left the tap on. They must pay.

Comix Zone

I loved this game. You character had all the moves that you'd get from Street Fighter (he was that developed) and so did all your enemies. It felt like a one on one fighting game that cross-dressed as a brawler with a comic book theme.

Mortal Kombat 3

It's Mortal Kombat. Again. It's even more brutally violent than before, but still no nudetalities.

FF mystic quest?

It had no random encounters. That earns it a gold star right there. It also had a fair bit of puzzles instead of the usual grinding. I like it.

Virtual boy?

You mean the monochrome red boy? Some of the first-party games were pretty good, but done in such a way that they could easily have been done on the SNES instead. Otherwise, a total failure. Gunpei Yokoi was sad.

Phantasy star?(2 more)

The first one basically created grinding. Fuck, it was hard. But, having a female lead was nice, and it had a unique story. Did anyone else think that the guards looked like stormtroopers?

Calfornia dried grapes(synonym)

Uhh... edutianment games need to fuck off and die. Especially this one.

Mario's time machine?

See above. At least AVGN got to sink his teeth into this one. And, playing as Luigi was nice, but
I now understand why he never came back for a lead role until Luigi's Mansion.
