The Art Portal now has Trophies

You know it's great that people who submit art in the Art Portal can win an award now, but my one question is, what about the Audio Portal? Why does Newgrounds just keep passing it by.

Sure the Art Portal can get awards now, but nothing for the Audio Portal?

I agree. The audio portal gets nothing. My music is shit, but if they actually had awards I'd take my time and make something that is actually good.

The Audio Portal is now the red-headed step child so I wouldn't expect much more in development terms.

It would be nice if they brought back the awards for views and downloads, even though they can be easily skewed.

I think the reason the art portal is getting more attention is that its both newer and more inline with the interests of the newgrounds staff. Its a WIP, as it were, so its not unusual to see it get new features, like the store did the year previous. I wouldn't bet against seeing Audio Portal advancements in the future... but at the same time when that future is may also be dependent on when another redesign is or something similar to that. The Audio Portal is "good enough" and if you're an owner of a site like this you have to ask:

- Is it worth providing new services and features or improving what I already have?
- Does this portion of the site draw in a lot of users
- Is this something that helps my site make money and meet goals?

etc

At this point I'd be doing everything I can to maximize faith in the site's ability to create new and interesting features and do it well. And for Newgrounds, that bit is the Flash API and Art Portal.

The chat, the audio portal, and the lit portal are probably all on the back burner until the WIPs are good enough to let run on their own.

It's just that people pay more attention to the Flash and Art portals than anything else.

I mean, Tom puts the front page Audio submissions at the BOTTOM OF THE FRONT PAGE!

I think, also, that there should be trophys.

That's why I don't submit audio.

Tom doesn't give us shit.

no, it doesn't with the audio portal because it sucks, if they would make it less sucky people would actually review your audio and more people would probably submit

It is good to give the art portal trophies, but at the same time it is true that the audio portal should get them as well. However, this site is living, and breathing and always upgrading so hopefully some trophies will come out soon enough for the audio portal. Or something similar.

I'm also waiting for a writing/stories portal.

Well it's not really about the pixel trophies, it's just that the Audio Portal is getting shunned so much. The Audio Portal has been neglected for a long time and I'm glad that this year's Halloween submissions that want to win an award must use non-commercial music.

Honestly, if Tom's leaving the Audio Portal due to lack of interest, then a good way to up the interest in it would be to encourage music artists through awards. Heck, I might go back to it, and actually make something worth listening to.

True. I've always wondered why so many great musical artists even bother with Newgrounds since there's tons of better audio portals on the web and the audio portal seems (a bit) neglected on NG (at the mome).

BUT

I think the whole thing with the audio portal and the flash portal is going to the right direction what I'm sorry I'm trying to say something but I'm just a little bit out of order right now.

it's not like it's the first contest on NG that requires AP-music...
and while i as an audio-artist myself would love to see improvments with the system, it's not difficult to understand why improvments are being made on other parts of the site instead of time spent with the AP.
I can imagine that the AP don't bring alot of ad-money at all, put the fact that Tom & CO are all flash-people to begin with. Flash is the heart of this site, and may very well always be.

However, with a more up to date AP, I'm pretty sure there would be alot more artists around, and with that even better music, and with that follows more AD-money and clients willing to buy AD-space... kindof a catch 22, but those improvments would have to be made on the expense of letting something else on the site wait. i can only guess that the artportal brings more talent (+ its alot "closer" to flash than audio), and then they have to keep up with the competition of the rest of the internets flashsites, no?...

maybe one day, who know... i do really hope so anyways... :)
