Recently, my dad and sister found out that there is a tumor on the back of my dog's head. He has been around before me and we always made a crack that he would last 'till college. Now he's so close to death.
How should I spend his last days with him?
What a shame, Mister Jensen.
I never asked for this, Mister Denton.

He can't stand up, much less run.
My dad wants him to pass without putting him down.

I'm sorry to hear that. Just do things he enjoys, without wearing him out too much. Take him for a nice final walk, somewhere he knows and loves, give him some nice human food, the stuff he has long been denied and just give him attention, let him know that you're there for him. This pleases a dog more than anything, their family, their masters being with them, just loving them. I hope he has a peaceful death.

Wow, I'm starting to cry because I'm listening to "Come as you Are" by Nirvana.

I had a dog with cancer in his jaw.
They told us they cut take off part of his jaw and give him a fake one but they where sketchy on the details because it's something they don't get to do a lot... they sent us to a special school in raleigh, NC to get the surgery done.
After his jaw was removed they told us they wanted to crack open his chest, take a rib bone, break it in half, and surgically put each half of the bone on each side of his face to see if the bones would grow back giving him a new, but oddly shaped jaw.
We didn't let them do that second part... mainly because my dog never seemed to care that he didn't have a jaw. It was odd... his tounge would hang down all the time but he just licked up his food and never showed any signs of stress or displeasure.
He lived another 4 or 5 years... the cancer eventually came back.
RIP Dakota
I had another dog that died at 3... he had a liver shunt.
RIP Barkley
My friend has a golden retreiver with cancer. She's older then all hell... doctors said she'd be dead in a few months. It's been a year. She still seems as healthy as ever (knock on wood). She's still alive today.
Just letting you know, you're not alone. It's ok... you'll deal with it. Until then, just do like you always do. Who knows... it could be another 3 years still.

Life is never about its last days, or the end, but the content of its whole. If your dog enjoyed its lifetime with a loving family, then the end only exists to highlight the joys and wonders experienced during life, and to truly cement the uniqueness and beauty that life is.
John Keats' poetry is an outstanding example of a way to see death as less of a tyrant, and more of a enabler for all life. If you haven't given some of his works a good hard read, I recommend that you do.
That being said, enjoy your dog's company just as you have for every other day of its life, and nothing will have been lost. That's what life is all about.
So I'm basically awesome.

You are a heartless bastard.
That really sucks man. I would just make him as comfortable as possible when he passes on.

Thanks for the help. I'll use his death as a motivator.

My dog died of skin cancer when he was like... 14 (he was a big dog, so his age was a shock even if he was healthy)
Just sit with him, be nice, treat him like gold... and then do whats right

I'm sorry to hear about your dog. Just be kind to it, and treat it well for its final days. Show affection to it and try and get a nice picture to remember it by. No, that wasn't meant to be a nasty comment - I'm being serious.
Also, I doubt Newgrounds is the best place to post this, with the stupid fucks on here...
