I meant to post this a while ago, but have been too busy. America pulled a U-turn: http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/scotland/8267 965.stm
Apparently were the best of buds now and very close allies? Do any of you in the States know why this is the official line now? Or what made them change their minds considering y'all were up for boycotting Scotland its goods and travelling their as a holiday destination.
Whats the script people?

To quote the article:
Before the release of Megrahi, US secretary of state Hillary Clinton said it would be "absolutely wrong" to allow Megrahi to return to Libya.
We still think it was wrong; that hasn't changed. But our government never said anything about retaliation as far as I know, and the article didn't say it either. And I know of no prominent figure in America who called for a boycott on Scotland. (If it was Rush Limbaugh, that's why I don't know.)
Besides, I think we figured out how dumb "freedom fries" was and don't want to repeat such idiocy within our own generation. Your government, your decision. We don't have to like it, but there's no point in holding a grudge over it either.

The news here has made this sound more than it actually is then, cheers for clearing that up!

I don't think they ever would have done anything anyway.
Putting pressure on the Scottish government would mean putting pressure on the British government too and we are too close together. I really don't see what they could have done that wouldn't have been too drastic.

When have we ever wanted to boycott Scottish goods? I don't think that's ever been the policy in our entire history of existing as a country.

The US government has said it does not want to punish Scotland for releasing the man convicted of the Lockerbie bombing, Abdelbasset al-Megrahi.
How the hell were we suppose to punish you? Change the ending to Braveheart?

Sanctions and trade embargoes. Mainly just bury them in red tape.
