I've been making countless experimental games that I dont end up finishing, but thats only because I dont think it would appeal to any audience expect myself and maybe a few of my friends. What I wanna know is, whats the best genre game to make? (EG. Platformer, shooting, puzzle). I know my first game (Pong Master, lol.) Wasnt all the brilliant, but I wanna make a game that mostly eveyrone is gona play, a game that most poeple will like. any ideas?

Make a game you really feel like making you shouldn't care if it "is for the mainstream media" stick to what YOU want, and make the best game you want to make.

This.
It's not like you're in the gaming industry and your game HAS to be successful. Indie game development is all about experimentation.
I say that the market for platformers, shoting games and thin rpgs is saturated. What you have left is brawlers, adventure games and puzzle games. Or you could lock your self into a bunker for a couple of months and make a major rpg game.
